His mind was immersed in 1944 during the World War II, he pictured the combat, the raw fear Peter, the character of the novel he was currently reading felt in battle. The smell of smoke, of powder in the air, the gunfire around him, he felt every detail as if he were there fighting alongside his fictional friend. However, Chris was quickly thrown back into reality as someone knocked on the door at his hotel room. He glanced at the clock, 11:20 already??? He'd spent the whole morning reading! He marveled as he closed the book and went to open the door.

The sight that greeted him shocked him to the core. Jonny stood there, crestfallen and lost. Chris' prediction had apparently become true. One thing was certain, his very soul hurt at seeing Jonny in that state.

"Come in Jay," he softly said.

"She broke up with me," he announced with a quiet voice and gloomy eyes.

"I'm so sorry." Oh babe.

"She wants something else for her life."

Jon was quiet. He really cared about this girl and she had broken his heart. How could she?

"That's shit man," Chris said placing a hand on his friend's shoulder.

"She said she wants more stability, not only having to see each other between shows and stuff," he dejectedly said. "She knew I was in the band from the very start! I, I thought she cared about me...," he said, his face betraying his anguish.

His own heart broke at seeing his friend suffering. Jonny was the loveliest person in the world, he did not deserve to go through this. Chris gently placed one arm around Jonny, then the other and soon he had wrapped the green-eyed guitarist in his arms. Jonny clung to him. This had hit him hard, it seemed.

"You'll find someone who will be right for you, you'll see," Chris tried to comfort the younger man.

"It's easy for you to say, you've got Gwyneth and your romantic film story. She doesn't care that you live in another country," Jonny miserably said.

"Actually, I don't "have her", I just went on a few dates with her," he made clear.

"Same thing," he miserably said.

"You more than anyone should know, going on dates and actually being in a relationship are two completely different things," he explained.

He had been seeing Gwyneth, that was true. He still could not believe that that breathtakingly beautiful woman was his girlfriend? No, definitely not his girlfriend. Lover? Well no, that was a bit crass. What was she anyways? If someone had come a year ago and told him that she would agree to go on a date with him, he would have deemed them as mental, but here he was, with a two month dating history with that pretty lady. He had been instantly captivated by her, she was certainly a beautiful woman and he still was in awe everytime she would look at him or every morning when he would wake up by her side. However, the feelings he had expected to feel for her had never developed. Being the bright woman she was, she noticed. Maybe that was why she had not called him in a week. He could not hide the fact he had no plans of giving a step forwards in their "relationship". He cared about her but not with the depth of someone who is in love with the other person. It was understandable that that happened, predictable even, seeing how they had come to be together.

Flashback

*Two months before*

Chris sat in the dressing room quietly strumming his guitar, they were currently in London for a hometown show and he was admittedly a bit nervous. Their success had made them well known and there would be many people he knew in the audience. One of his worst nightmares would be to end up making a fool of himself in front of his family and old school friends. According to their PA there would also be celebrities in the audience. He thought it was still something quite surreal when one of the musicians or actors he was used to see on TV asked to say hello to him and his band. He was honoured, but it felt weird at the same time. He certainly did not think he was anything special.
