 Runnin'

it was her one day off

from the diner where she worked

she was out on the back roads

kickin' up dirt

i saw her comin' and i waited

till we rode out side by side

across the flats along the ridges

the sun hot through my shirt

she was a truck stop waitress

on a credit card afternoon

hugged the Harley like a promise

and she rode it like ruin

we made love in the dunes

sunshine in her eyes

then she was gone in a hurry

now i'm runnin' from the memory

of the sunshine in her eyes
