Chapter 3- interference at Hogwarts
We had now settled into to Hogwarts and were currently in the great hall for the feast and the speech as I liked to call it. Where we eat and Dumbledore tells us the rules for this year. It was hard not to notice the gap between Harry and everyone else at the table beside him, I felt sorry for him it’s not his fault the ministry won’t believe he who must not be named it back.
Dumbledore was currently telling us the rules for this year.
"...tryouts for the house Quidditch teams will take place on the-"
"Hem-Hem...” everybody looked to the person who had interrupted Dumbledore, which happened to be the new defence against the dark arts teacher. She had been at Harry’s hearing that he had for using magic in front of that cousin of his, which meant she worked for the minister.
“Thank you, headmaster, for those kind words of welcome. “ she said as she walked up to the podium where Dumbledore was currently standing.
“The Ministry of Magic has always considered the education of young witches and wizards to be of a vital importance. Although each headmaster has brought something new to this... historic school, progress for the sake of progress must be discouraged. Let us preserve what must be preserved, perfect what can be perfected and prune practices that ought to be... prohibited!"
“I don’t get it.” Ginny said.
“what does it mean?” Ron said as he sat across the table from us.
“it means the ministry is interfering at Hogwarts.”
"Thank you Professor Umbridge. That really was most illuminating." Dumbledore said.
“now off to bed.” He said as everyone got up and started to walk away. The crowd piled out and as I was in the middle of the crowd I got pulled to the side.
“what…the…” I said as I turned around and saw Draco standing there.
“what do you want Malfoy?” I asked him.
“you’re angry at me.” He stated.
“no I’m not.” I told him.
“you’re angry because I didn’t owl back straight away, but I had other things I had to take care of.”
“I’m not angry Draco I’ve also had more important things going on than to wallow over the fact that you didn’t message back to me, and I’m sorry if that comes as a shock to you.”
“I would have owled if I could have.”
“I know that, I don’t blame you. Well I did at first but I understand.”
“well I’m glad.” He said looking at me.
“listen can we catch up later or something, they’ll get worried if I’m not in the common room soon.”
“sure.” He said as he let me go.
I practically ran to the common room so no one would notice how long it took me to get there.
“you’re late.” The fat lady said as I arrived at the Gryffindor tower.
“yeah I know, Mimbulus mimbletonia, I said as she opened up as I said the password.
I came into the common room to see everyone was there.
“where have you been?” Ginny asked me.
“sorry I got held up.” I told her.
Harry walked past after me and straight passed Dean and Seamus who were staring at him.
“alright Dean, Seamus good summer?” he asked them.
“good, well better than Seamus’.” Dean replied.
“Me mam didn't want me to come back this year.” Seamus said as he saw Harry look at me.
“Why not?” Harry asked him.
“Let me see... because of you! The Daily Prophet's been saying a lot of things about you, Harry. About Dumbledore as well.”
“And your mum believes them?”
“Well, no one was there the night Cedric died.”
“Oh, well I guess you should read the Prophet then, like your stupid mother. It'll tell you everything you need to know.”
“Don't you dare talk about my mother like that!”
“I'll have a go at anyone who calls me a liar!”
“what’s going on?” Ron said as he walked past me and Ginny.
“do you believe what he’s saying about you know who?” Seamus asked Ron.
“yeah I do.” He said looking at Seamus. “anyone else got anything to say about Harry?” he asked everyone and no-one replied. “good.” He said as him and Harry walked off.
“do you believe him?” Seamus said suddenly turning to me.
“yeah I do.” I told him.
“how can you believe him?” Seamus asked.
“listen if you have a better answer for what happened to Cedric then share it!” I shouted at him. “otherwise don’t have a go at Harry when you don’t know all the facts.” I said storming off into the girls common room and slamming the door.
