"Luke, please don't go along with this." She pouted, frowning out of genuine concern for her only true friend.

"I'm sorry, Dahlia, but I'm doing this and that's that." He huffed stubbornly, tying his laces.

"Please... what if you get caught? I'm telling you now, Jacob and Aries and Sam are a bad crowd!" She exclaimed.

"Well they're one hell of a lot more supportive than you are!" He shot back, sighing. "If you've got a problem with this, I don't see why you agreed to join us."

She shuffled awkwardly, eyes tainted with a slight sadness. She spoke softly, "I agreed to come to watch you because I don't want you to be in danger, Luke. You're basically all I have..."

The boy gulped, looking up at her as he sat on the porch steps of the orphanage in which many other children much like themselves lay dormant with slumber. He took the time to notice her worried expression, the nervous fiddling of her hands and slight tremble. She was scared.

Guilt washed over him. He sighed, standing, and as he'd learnt to do, he hugged his smaller friend, and pressed a comforting kiss to her forehead.

"I'll be okay, Dahl. Go home, sleep. I'll see you tomorrow for the English test - promise."

The girl smiled slightly, though only due to the uncertainty that came out clearly laced within her voice. "Pinky promise?"

He chuckled, nodding, smiling at her. "Promise." He whispered, linking fingers with her and kissing her forehead once more. With a small wave, the two parted ways.

If only Luke would have listened to Dahlia.
