"You felt it too, didn't you?" Jai said, his eyes frantically searching Marina's for any sign of love or hope. But there was nothing but regret and sadness.

Marina didn't respond and that made Jai's hope increase. He once again took her by surprise, his arm securing around her waist and his lips catching hers in a hungry kiss.

But she didn't kiss back this time. Instead, she shoved him away from her with a scoff and pulled her hand back, delivering a slap across his cheek. Jai barely felt it though. It was only a slight sting, barely a tap to him. He was flabbergasted at her actions though. She'd slapped him.

"What the hell Jai!? You...you can't do that! You can't come back all of a sudden and expect me to welcome you with open arms. I'm with Luke, now. You left. That was your choice and your mistake." She stated harshly.

Jai winced slightly. Her words brought pain to him but snapped him out of his little fantasy and back to reality. He sighed, nodding his head once and Marina softened her gaze a bit. Her head tilted down and she rubbed the back of her neck as she spoke. "You should go."

Jai swallowed his pride and nodded again, this time speaking instead of remaining slightly. "If that's what you want." He glanced at her one last time and was out the front door in a second, leaving Marina alone.

Marina didn't sleep much that night. She didn't know if it was because of her mind wandering to Jai and their past together or because Luke hadn't come home yet.

It was past 3 am and he hadn't even texted. She knew he was mad, but even then he'd still check in or let her know if he going home. And he hadn't. Sighing, she rolled over for what seemed like the millionth time and buried her face into Luke's pillow. It still had his faint smell and Marina felt tears prick at her eyes.

She was completely overwhelmed by everything. What was she suppose do know? She loved Luke, but when Jai returned her memories, she felt that familiar spark between the two. She didn't want to indulge in it so she decided to bury it and be nothing but cruel to him. She was trying to take the easy way out. Just like Jai.

It wasn't fair, no. But no one said she had to be. Jai wasn't fair with her at all and a part of her wishes for him to not have returned. He'd only arrived hours ago and she was already questioning everything around her. Like if Luke really did love her. Was he only taking advantage of her oblivious state? What is he trying to get at?

The sound of the door slamming broke her out of her unhealthy thoughts and she sat up alarmed on her bed. Footsteps were heard coming down the hall and Marina squinted her eyes as the bedroom door was opened to reveal none other than Luke.

She let out the breath she didn't realize she was holding and climbed off the bed, embracing him in a hug, surprising him and herself as well. He hesitated at first but retuned the hug, their bodies pressing close against each other's. She pulled away slightly and glanced down, noticing his shirt was stained with blood.

"Oh my god! What happened to you?" She asked with widened eyes as she examined him closer. His shirt was ripped, a hole in the center with dried blood forming a jagged circle.

Luke ran a hand through his messy curls and pulled his soiled shirt off, tossing it to a random corner of the room. He had had quite an eventful night. First Jai coming back and now he figured out that there was a vampire hunter running around the streets of L.A.

He looked at her with soft eyes as her small fingers traced the dried blood and healed wounds on his abdomen. "Did...did someone stab you?"

Luke nodded, taking her hand in his own, their fingers interlocking. "Yes..." He nervously bit on his lip ring and guided her to sit on the bed where he joined her. "I...when Jai came back...well...turns out a vampire hunter followed him back."

"A vampire hunter?" Marina cringed slightly and rubbed her temple. "I thought those didn't exist."

"Everything exists, Marina. Hunters...there hasn't been many of them around lately. We'd thought the hunter generation was over. But I guess not". He frowned slightly and threw himself back against the bed.

Marina didn't know what to say after that. She didn't know what a hunter would mean. She knew she didn't have to worry about herself because she wasn't a vampire. But Jai and Luke and Daniel and Beau were. They would be the ones in danger this time.

Just more conflict added to their regularly scheduled drama.

"What does this mean? Will you be okay? Safe?" Luke chuckled slightly at her concern and panic, nodding his head.

"It's one hunter, Marina. I'm a lot stronger. She just caught me off guard. But I can handle myself."

"She?" Marina asked and he nodded again. She didn't know how Luke was so calm over this, as if it was a bunny who'd given him a hug. It was a serious matter and it was ticking her off that he was playing it off. But she left the subject alone, but wanting to brew an argument.

She took a glance at Luke and saw his eyes were closed. Assuming that he wasn't upset or mad at her, she lied back down and curled up against his side. On instinct, Luke wrapped an arm around her waist, pulling her closer to him. His chin was resting on her head and her hand was on his bare torso

"Did you and Jai talk?" He asked quietly after a few minutes of silence.

"Yes. But I...I don't want to talk about it."

"Did he hurt you?" He immediately asked once he noticed her tone of voice and heard her heartbeat rise.

"I don't know."

An uncomfortable silence followed that and Marina shifted awkwardly against Luke. She was beginning to fall asleep when Luke spoke again, his voice cracking and softer this time.

"Do you still love him?"

Marina felt her heart drop. She took in shallow breaths and leaned up on her elbows to meet Luke's gaze. He was already looking at her and she bit nervously on her lower lip. "I don't know..."

"Oh." And that one word shattered her heart.

She shook her head and pressed her lips against his in a chaste and loving kiss. Her hand rested against his cool cheek as she looked into his hazel orbs. "You don't need to worry about that, Luke. I love you, okay?"

Luke didn't respond and Marina sighed, rolling away from him and pulling the blankets up to her chin. Her back was to him and Luke longingly looked at her before starting up at the ceiling.

He should've left the topic alone.
