"Why the hell do they want to do that? I thought he was doing better!" I exlcaimed, pacing the room nervously.

It was the last day I could enjoy the presence of my family, so I couldn't go to the hospital with Callie. All week end, I asked her to call to update me on Pit's state. At first, she told me he was doing better, and that the doctor planned on removing the mechanical ventilation, but then she said they wanted him to be in the intensive care unit, which I couldn't understand.

"He was doing better," she sighed, and I could hear in her tone that she was exhausted. "He had convulsions last night. His wound doesn't heal, it doesn't cicatrize and they think it's infected, hence the convulsions."

"Then why doesn't they just give him some other antibiotics? This is some bullshit. I'll be there in a few," I annouced.

"June, no. Enjoy your family time, I got this," Callie said, serious. "They gave him antibiotics, but he's not responding to it."

"What does this mean?"

"If he doesn't get better, he'll have to go through another surgery."

"Hell no! He can't go through another surgery, what the fuck?" I practically yelled through the empty bedroom.

"That's why he needs to go to the intensive care unit so that they can find a way to heal him instead of taking him at the OR right away. They try to find a way. He is weak, they need to keep a close watch on him."

"He's in a coma, of course he's weak," I sighed, and sat on the bed. "Who's staying there tonight?"

"Nobody. We're not allowed to stay over at night anymore."

"Say what? And why?" I asked, my eyes widenning.

"Because family isn't allowed in this unit. June, the people who are in there are in a very bad shape."

"I can't believe this," I sighed once again. "This is fucked up."

"I know," Callie also sighed. "I'm afraid I'm losing hope."

"Please, don't. We need to be strong and stick together," I said, feeling a lump forming in my throat. "He's still with us, his heart is still beating. He's going to make it."

"I can't lose him," she broke down crying on the other end of the phone. "I need him."

"I know hon, I know," I simply said, trying not to cry as well.

"I found a ring in his nightstand's drawer last night. I—I didn't mean to find it, but I was looking for—"

"Whoa, a ring?" I asked, surprised my friend didn't tell me about this.
