That night Ouran's grand ball was even better than the previous years. However, that night was also when Jun had a second vision.
"Hello? Is anyone there?" Jun's voice called out into the whiteness, encasing the ground and sky with that color. Usually the color white was supposed to be a good sign but this time it felt different. It felt oppressive, suffocating, to be trapped within that white void. For a dream, this was pretty vivid. Everything felt so real.
"So you've come," A voice echoed from behind Jun. She whipped around to see a little girl of auburn hair and green eyes, her pure white dress waving about as if an invisible breeze was keeping it in motion. She bore a close resemblance to Ren, otherwise known as Asao Izumi.
"Are you... Maya?"
"Well, I guess I am." Nothing much for a conversation to go on; Jun guessed she might not want to talk. Still, this dream was way too realistic, to the point where Jun was conscious of everything she did. Everything she said.
"Why are you in my dream?" This question too, was something she had free will to ask or not.
"I'm here to ask you a question." Her auburn hair began to float ever so slightly, a mesmerizing sea of reddish hues floating above her green orbs.
"Is happiness shared between people or experienced alone?"
"Huh?!" A philosphical question? Jun wasn't prepared for this. She didn't seem to be joking; Maya's head tilted slightly awaiting her answer.
"Ummm...." Was all she could say.
"It's alright if you don't have the answer now, I can understand. However, there is probably one thing you should know."
She paused with brief hesitation flickering in her eyes before she continued.
"A life saved is also a life lost."
"Wha-?" Her words were way too heavy to swallow.
"Wait, come back!" Maya began to drift away further into the void.
"During the day of the incident, it was determined that a number of lives had to die that day. That day, one escaped the clutches of Death. Death told me this himself; he awaits the one who escaped."
Shivers ran down Jun's spine. What the heck was this dream? Was she talking about the Etheria Towers incident?!
"What are you talking about?! Are you talking about Ren- Izumi?!"
At her brother's name, Maya simply smiled sadly.
"It is unfortunate that Death still wishes to claim the missing life. Still, I will wait no matter how long it takes." Slowly, her figure seemed to be drifting away as she spoke.
"Is this for real? Maya come back! I need answers!" Sadly, Maya had already disappeared. The void began to become distorted. It twisted and convulsed, with Jun in it until...
She woke up in bed, sweat beading her skin and mad eyes accompanied with heavy breathing. The void was gone, replaced with the very familiar view of her bedroom. The only thing unfamiliar here was how fast her heart was beating, along with the tears trickling down her cheeks.
"For a dream... that was too realistic..." Jun attempted to laugh it off. Still, something in her told her it wasn't something easily able to be dismissed as a dream.
"Jun? Are you awake? I just finished cooking breakfast~" Maika's voice echoed from downstairs. At least there was no school today; Jun could just clean herself up and lounge around at home all day. As soon as she left the room, the smell of toast and bacon wafted their way upstairs to greet her.
"Morning, sis." Jun yawned sleepily as she sat into her usual seat.
"Morning Jun!"
"Hey, you're not gonna greet me? Rude." The third voice immediately brought Jun back to reality to see Ren sitting next to her, casually chewing on a bacon strip dangling from his fork.
"Ren?! What the hell are you doing here?!"
"I invited him over for breakfast, Izumi would you want some more bacon?"
"Yeah sure but I'll get it myself, you need to eat too." The auburn-haired male stood up and walked to the kitchen. As soon as he was gone, Jun did a face palm.
"Maika, next time you invite Ren over you need to let me know and NOT surprise me like that."
"It was Ren's idea about keeping it a secret though, said something about finally able to annoy you." Suddenly, Ren's head popped into view from the kitchen.
"Correction, it was "Finally I can annoy the hell out of Jun after making me go through your life unwillingly." "
"I never asked you to possess me though!" The two began a small friendly glaring competition as Maika rolled her eyes.
"How about you guys hurry eat up or else you'll be late for the trip-" Maika's eyes widened as her hands flew to cover her mouth. However, it was far too late; the two had heard her and began to corner her.
"Sis? What's this about a trip?"
"Yeah, and you never told us?"
"Uh w-well..." Maika began to sweatdrop, "It was supposed to be a secret and uh..."
"Maika, tell us or else I'll make Ren do it." The corner of Ren's mouth curved upwards into a smirk.
"D-Do what?!" Slowly, Ren raised his hands upwards ready. Maika simply gulped; they both knew she was ticklish.
"Ren, do it-" "WAIT WAIT WAIT OKAY I'LL TELL!" The two began to snicker; Maika was just too easy to pressure. Still, Ren didn't move his hands away, slightly disappointed by Maika giving up.
"Jeesh fine, I said I'll tell okay?! Izumi!" Finally, Ren's hands reluctantly dropped to their sides. Seeing how her younger sister and childhood friend seemed to be working together against her, Maika simply sighed wearily.
"If I told you we're going on a cruise ship, you wouldn't freak out on me would you?"
A/N: Short chapter but expect longer ones in the future, I'd say we're halfway there~ ;)
