Chapter 10

I walk to the gym to find the jags running on the treadmill Tony built for them. I smile, "You guys really don't want to leave, do you?" They stop and look at me. They shake their heads no. "Maybe we can find a way to stay."

Kino, Grey, Tessa and I arrive at the park. They stretch their legs and run. They all run in unison, making me chuckle. I use my enhanced hearing to listen to other people's conversations, because 1. I can and 2. I'm kind of bored. Blah blah blah. Something bout boyfriends. Blah blah blah. Wait. I look at one woman on her phone...with the cops. "Yes, hi. I'm calling to complain about five wild cheetahs running loose in- hello? Hello?" She stuffs her phone in her purse. I lower my hand allowing the phone to regain its signal. I put on a fake smile and walk up to her, "Hello!" She grumbles a hello. "I couldn't help it, but I overheard your conversation. Those cheetahs, are jaguars." "Who cares! They're wild and dangerous!" She snaps. I wince at the terms the woman used for my family. "Sorry, but they happen to be my closest family. And they will hurt no one unless I say so. Oh, one more thing. My family is part of the Avengers, so don't test me," I wave and walk away, looking innocent.

I take off and run next to the jags, enjoying the feeling of freedom. Until a police car parks along the side of the road, and I see a cop walk over with his gun drawn. I stop running and tell Grey to take everyone to a tree. They obey, and I walk up to the cop. "Hello Officer....Jamison. Is there a problem?" He lowers his gun, "Y-yes miss. I would advise you to be careful. There are some cheetahs running wild here." I huff, "Cheetahs? Do you really think I'm dumb enough to fall for that?"

He looks startled by my sudden change in mood. "N-No miss. I don't think that at all, but I'm serious. There are wild animals roaming around this park. I just don't want anyone to get hurt." While he's distracted, I remove the ammo from his gun. "There aren't any wild animals I know of, but there are some jaguar friends of mine." I gesture Kino to come down. He sits down by my side. Jamison raises his gun,"Miss, don't panic, but it's right next to you." I look at Kino, "Who, Kino? He's my best friend." I rub his head and he purrs. Then, Grey, Kora, Blue, and Tessa stand by me. "These guys won't hurt a being. Honest." He looks at me like I'm crazy. Blue yawns, causing the frightened officer to shoot at him. Nothing happens. He looks at his gun and we walk to the tower. Well, more like run.

When we get back we race to the gym. I run with the jags for a few minutes. I look at the time, and it's almost midnight. Crap! I've got school! I walk to my room with them right behind me. I shower and change into a tank top and sweatpants, and I jump onto my bed. Kino lays on top of me, so I start stroking his back. He purrs. I smile, but it quickly fades.

"You know you can't come with me to school, right?" He nods and keeps purring. The rest are already asleep. "Wow. I thought you'd freak out or something." "We've gotten used to not being with you as often, but you still have to be careful," he warns. I chuckle and lay down, "Goodnight Kino."
