Third Person Point of View
Before Charlie had a chance to comprehend what was happening, her phone began to ring. Her heart fluttered for a moment but the feeling disappeared immediately. She hadn't given her number to Calum yet, so clearly he wasn't the one calling.Since it wasn't Calum, she assumed it would be Amelia. However, as her eyes laid upon her phone, she saw that it wasn't her best friend either. Instead it was a name she never thought she'd see. At least not since she told him she had no feelings for him.
"Andrew?" She breathed cautiously into the phone. She couldn't think of one reason why Amelia's brother would be calling, especially at 11:15 at night. "What's going on?"
"Charlie. Hey, how are you?" He sounded casual but there was definitely something weird going on.
"Good," she trailed off, her thoughts drifting.
He laughed nervously before continuing, "Look I know this seems absurd, but I was wondering if you'd like to go out with me tomorrow."
Charlie's mouth dropped to the floor. It's a good thing he can't see her right now.
There is no way this is actually happening. She's explained to him numerous times that she doesn't feel that way about him. He is like a brother to her, nothing more.
"Uhm, I'm sorry Andrew, but I'm going to have to say no. I've told you about this...," before she could finish, he cut her off.
"No, no I understand. Sorry to bother you."
The line went silent abruptly. He had hung up.
She sat there, staring at her phone. She'll definitely have to call Amelia about this, but it'll have to wait until tomorrow. She doesn't want to deal with this right now.
All she wanted to do right now was talk to Calum.
Charlie: 928-435-3421
There was no reply. She worried that too much time had passed and maybe he fell asleep. Or maybe he was awake and was intentionally ignoring her. Whatever the case, she regrets taking Andrew's call.
A sigh escaped her lips as she lay back on her bed. Her eyes suddenly got really heavy, threatening to close at any moment. She fought her hardest to keep them open but failed.
Ring, ring. Ring, ring.
Her eyes opened immediately at the sound of her phone going off. She was unaware as to how long she'd been asleep, but didn't care the moment she realized who was calling her.
"Calum," she greeted, her voice low and overcome by her exhaustion.
"Oh, Charlie. I'm sorry, did I wake you?"
At the sound of his voice, everything seemed to disappear — her exhaustion, her thoughts and worries about Andrew's phone call — everything.
"No, of course not!" She lied, but she didn't want anything to persuade him to hang up.
"I don't believe you, but I'm going to be selfish and go along with it since I'm desperate to talk to you," he chuckled.
"Desperate, huh? Didn't know you were so eager, Hood."
"Well, I am when it comes to you."
