Third Person Point of View
Charlie was in denial. She never would've imagined that Amelia would be this way. In all honesty, she thought she'd be happy for her, but apparently she was wrong. After sending the last message to her so-called best friend, she threw her phone on the pillow. She managed to get three feet away from it before it began to ring. Thinking it was Amelia, she decided to ignore it and go downstairs for a snack.
Fifteen minutes later she returned to her room to find ten missed phone calls; however, none of them were from Amelia.
She picked it up immediately and called back.
"Hello stranger," he greeted happily, "you had me worried."
"I'm so sorry, Cal. I went downstairs for a snack and left my phone."
He had a sense there was something off from the sound of her voice. Even though they haven't spoken on the phone as much as he'd like, it's pretty easy for him to catch on. He's always been fairly good at detecting this type of thing. So much so that the guys have called him out numerous times.
"What's wrong, babe?"
She's taken aback by his question. First of all she can't believe he'd caught onto her tone of voice, and second of all she's never had someone ask her straight out. Normally they would ask if she was okay and once she told them she was fine, they'd leave it alone even though she wish they wouldn't.
By her lack of reply, he speaks up filling the silence.
"It's okay you can tell me," he says sweetly.
"It's just trouble with my best friend. It's not a big deal or anything." She doesn't mind telling him, but she doesn't want to drag him into it.
"Well, if it were a big deal, which it may or may not be, I'm more than willing to listen."
How can he be so sweet? Especially to someone he barely knows. She couldn't understand it.
So she had to ask.
"Why are you being so sweet to me?"
Now it was his turn to be taken aback. He certainly wasn't expecting to hear that.
"Why do you doubt yourself so much?" It was a risk to ask his own instead of answer her question, but he's a risk taker and he's hoping she is too. He once asked for her to be his little risk taker, and now is the time to live up to that.
"Because it's so much easier," she replies immediately as if it was rehearsed.
"Easier than what?"
"Than believing in myself."
"I know that you think that's easier, but it's not the right way to go. Just because it seems easier doesn't mean it's worth it. Doubting yourself instead of believing in yourself can cause so much damage, Charlie, and you're far too amazing to do that. I won't allow it."
"Oh really?" A sniffle travels through the earpiece as tears fill her eyes. Nobody has ever been so gentle with her before.
"Yes, really and I'll prove it." Although she can't see him, he's displaying the biggest smile imaginable. The guys stifle laughs as they hover around him.
"How?"
"You'll see."
