It was strange. For the first time in a long time, I felt embarrassed after Damien had dropped me off in front of my home. Somehow, I had taken his presence of dropping me off in front of my home like we were coming from a date or something.
To tell the truth it didn't seem like a bad idea to try out one day. Maybe deep down I was subconsciously craving the idea.
But what I was certain about was that I had never had a person of the opposite sex, open the door to their car and give me a hand to safely walk out of their car.
A pricey sports car, at that.
I wasn't accustomed to feeling the jumble of nerves that pulsed in every sense I was currently feeling. I was rarely anxious or self conscious. I mostly fell in the mood of self pity and daydreaming of better things to do than my normal routine.
"So this is where a fair maiden lives, huh?"
I could see the corner of his mouth turn into a pointed curve as his eyes wondered at the tall intimidating, multi-apartment complex, before us.
"Fair maiden? Nah. Maybe a pretty angel" I teased.
I could feel my rib cage try to contain the over enthusiastic heart that I called my own. I could feel my face suddenly become heated at my attitude towards a certain handsome vampire man, I had beside me.
"Hmm, that sounds about right too" he chuckled.
Another being's heart swelled beside my own, internally. And I was starting to freak out.
Was this the feeling people got when they said they were in love?
"I should probably go now. You know after a rough night and all" I awkwardly returned a smile and rushed out the parking lot and up the stairs to my building. "Thanks... For everything!" I shouted and slipped behind the main doors.

When I got into my apartment, I finally had enough time to shake off the feelings of fluster I assembled earlier.
I mean I THOUGHT I had enough time, because I was in full panic mode when I heard someone scream in my ear, "FREEZE! STOP RIGHT THERE AND DESCRIBE YOUR POSITION!"
I involuntarily had my hands up, with one of my palms holding my apartment keys. I searched my complex for anyone other than a man in a suit with a gun pointing at my direction. As soon as I saw the pistol in his hands I closed my eyes in fear.
"Please don't shoot me! Please don't shoot me!" I repeated in fear.
"STATE YOUR POSITION, CITIZEN!"
"UHH, this is my apartment! I'm a part time waitress at a bar!" I was telling this nicely dressed robber my life.
"WHAT'S YOUR ALIEN IDENTITY, CITIZEN?"
"Alien identity?" I repeated in confusion.
"WHAT'S YOUR SUPERNATURAL BREED?"
"Uh-ah, Angel?" I racked my brain for the right answer at this second.
"ARE YOU LYLA KARASON?"
"I believe so" I began to wonder why he knew my name. Had I committed a crime I didn't know I was in the middle of doing?
All of sudden the man lowered his weapon and instead extended his hand towards me.
"I'm agent Jackson, and I'm your new bodyguard and instructor" he shook my hand with such firmness I was beginning to think this was all a business set up, I forgot about.
I looked around again for my personal angel, and realized he was nowhere in sight, so I began to form a horrible idea.
"Are you replacing Sariel?" I asked out loud my frightening question.
