What I didn't get was Matt's attitude. Or Agent Jackson's attitude in this case. One moment he was so protective of me and the next he was so suspicious of my intentions.
As he had promised, lock-down had occurred. In less than 24-hrs of meeting my new protector, I already managed to anger him and punish me by default of assessing a Lock-down.
In the past two hours all we had accomplished was me sitting in my favorite soft chair as I played a mental staring contest with my new uneventful buddy.
Lock-down basically consisted of me not being able to go outside my apartment. So I literally felt like a caged hamster where I endlessly refilled my coffee mug and watch his expression falter then harden.
Matt had a nice solid face to look at. It didn't make me as happy or make my heart go wild as suppose when I saw Damien's face, but I could get use to it. His chocolate brown eyes seemed to hold specks of orange, as they stared back at me, unflinchingly. A nicely pressed suit, outlined his body's upkeep with excising on all the right places.
"Why are you looking at me like that?" Matt had finally broke the silence, with a quizzical expression of fear.
"Looking at you, like what?" I feigned confusion.
"Like you're trying to figure out if you like me or don't" his eyes squinted at me, suspiciously.
"So what if I am? I have to let you know what I'm thinking too? To protect myself from myself?" I sarcastically backfired his lame remark.
He sighed, tired with my defensive character. I was only making it tough on him because he put me on lock-down for no reason. I wasn't gonna spill anything because there was nothing more to say.
"Alright being nice isn't working, I can see" Matt confirmed. He got up from his sitting spot and headed for my kitchen.
"What are you doing?" I yelled after his muscular fame, and followed.
"I'm trying something on you. Maybe you'll open up more now" he stretched a long piece of rope he had found from digging around under my sink, and menacingly looked my way.
"Oh, hell no! Are you crazy?" I shouted with wide eyes.
"Relax!" Matt's eyebrows drew in annoyance. "I'm just gonna tie you to a chair. Nothing too crazy"
"Nothing too crazy?" I repeated in disbelieve. "I should report you to the Angel in charge. You're crazy. You can't tie me like some animal that's running wild" I crossed my arms.
"You're testing my patience, Lyla. I know something more happened last night. Your hiding something from me" he narrowed his eyes at me, crossing his arms across his chest, making a statement.
"I seriously don't know what to say" Or what exactly to spill, in my case. Didn't want to be the big mouth that ratted someone out.
Again we had another stare contest as a couple of minutes ticked by.
I ended our mental stare down as something internally pierced the pit of my stomach.
"Ow!" I complained, clutching my tummy like I had cramps or something.
"What's wrong with you?" Matt was at my side in an instant as he wrapped his arm around my shoulders and held one of my hands to lead me towards my couch.
"I feel like my stomach is being stabbed" I confessed, in utter pain.
"Are you getting your monthly cycle?" He asked the question like it must've been the issue with all female tummy-aching whiners.
