I was outside hunting for a fresh rabbit heart.
I was up in the tree looking down at a stupid rodent, hopping around carelessly.
Until- BAM.
It got caught in my trap.
I bet this would creep Jake out.
I snickered before dropping down and pulling out a small blade.
"Hey Enoch!"
I jumped and nearly cut the boy behind me. "Holy cow! Jacob!" I frowned before hissing in pain at the blood oozing from the fresh gash in my hand. "Idiot." I frowned.
"What are you doing?" he frowned, crouching in front of me.
"Well I was hunting for some fresh organs... But you just caused me a great injury." I sighed.
"I'm sorry."
"Yeah. Yeah." I grumbled. "But since this is your fault, you're fixing me up."
"Alright. Well let's get you inside."
"Wait." I groaned. "Free the pest."
He smiled at me shyly before lifting the net to free the scared rabbit.
The brun grabbed my other hand and led me to my room.
Once we were inside he pulled out a kit and started to clean up my cut.
"So when you need fresh organs, you go outside and kill things?"
"To give life you must take life."
"So everything you've brought to life... You've killed something?"
"Well when you say it like that... I sound quite morbid." I exhaled, watching his expression closely.
"Hmm. No. It's just... Odd."
"My power? Yeah. I know." I furrowed my brows as I bit my bottom lip. "Sometimes I wish it was as simple as yours... But unfortunately, I'm not as lucky."
He laughed at me for a second before sobering. "You think seeing the monsters that kill you guys is lucky?"
"..."
"Because honestly, it's mortifying." he clenched his jaw. "They're big and ugly and they've got these large mouths that tentacles come out of... And they always devour the eyes. Always..."
"..."
"And it's scary. Sometimes I'm really scared. You know?" he breathed. "I'm the only person who can see them besides my grandpa... And I don't know how I feel."
"Oh."
"But you've got a great power. You can create an army of the dead. You can create life. A short lived one, but none the less... life." he smiled at me. "And all I can do is see the monsters."
"But if you didn't see the monsters, none of us would be here. All of us would be dead. Every single one of us." I commented, refusing to let him put himself down anymore. "And that's why Emma likes you."
"Oh that's a shame..."
I snorted. "And why's that?"
"I've got a boyfriend."
"Do you really?" I arched a brow at him as he finally bandaged my hand.
"Yes!"
"What's the fellow's name?"
"Hmmm. His name is Enoch O'Connor. He's a bit bitchy at first but it's just a facade until you get him to trust you."
"Oh... He sounds bitter."
"Well he's like dark chocolate. It takes a minute for your palate to adjust. Initially it's gross but after a while it's just as delicious."
"Shut up, you cheeseball." I scowled, pulling my bandaged hand away.
"Only if you kiss me."
"Hmmm. Fine."
"Wait what?" he blushed.
I leaned close to him and smirked. "Did you expect me to say no, sweetheart?"
"E-Enoch?"
I could feel his heart surging in his chest.
"Isn't this what you want, Jake?" I mumbled against his lips, moving back every time he tried to move forward and touch our lips.
"Yea... I just didn't think you were going to give in."
I licked his bottom lip tauntingly. "I didn't think I was going to either."
