"Avery... Avery... Merlin's beard Avery wake up!"
Slowly, my eyes opened to be met by someone's face merely a few inches away from mine.
Surprised at the close proximity of Sirius Black, I jolted back and hit my head on the brick wall I was leaning against.
"Ow," I whined, rubbing the back of my head. "Why would you do that?" I asked Sirius, sending him a playful glare.
"I didn't mean to!" He exclaimed, throwing his hands in the air.
"No, not making me hit my head, I meant waking me up!" I replied, chuckling.
"Why were you sleeping outside the Gryffindor portrait hole?"
"Gryffindor? I thought it was the Slytherin one." I groaned, face-palming.
Sirius chuckled, deciding not to question me further. "Do you want to join the me and the rest of the guys for breakfast?" He asked, offering his hand to help me get up.
"Sure." I replied, using his support to quickly lift me up onto my feet "But on one condition."
He raised an eyebrow. "And that would be?"
I grinned. "Give me a piggyback there."
"God, you're so childish." He laughed as he bent down so I could get up.
I threw my arms around his shoulders so he wouldn't drop me, grinning as we walked throw the halls.
When we entered the great hall, we James stood up to greet us.
"Hey Avery, hey Tom." He said, grinning at us.
"James, don't to this." Sirius muttered, sighing.
"Tom?" I asked, giving James a look of confusion.
"Because Sirius' face is as red as a tomato." He replied, laughing.
I quickly hopped off of Sirius' back and turned to him.
"Sorry, I-I'm probably quite heavy. I guess you got puffed out or..." I started rambling, a habit I carry when I'm nervous."Avery."
I looked over at Remus who was speaking.
"Don't worry about it. I'm sure you're not that heavy so there's no need to fret. Come sit down and have some breakfast." He spoke calmly, easing my nerves. I agreed and sat down next to him, the opposite side from where James had been sat before he got up and greeted Sirius and I.
Sirius sat down in between James and Peter, straight across from me. Remus was on my right and a cheerful girl with strawberry blonde hair on my left.
James looked over to the the girl on my left and smirked.
"Did you sit there because you thought you'd get to sit next to one of us guys?" He asked, arrogance and confidence in his voice. The girl looked over at him and scoffed. "Merlin, no! Why would I ever want to do that?"
I laughed. Why couldn't I be in Gryffindor? Everyone here is so nice and funny. Then again, I've only met two people in Slytherin.
