After a long, long, weekend it was finally school. My first day.
"Josh! Get up before you're late!" My dad yelled from downstairs. "Okay!" I yelled back and I, slowly, got up from my bed. I grabbed my phone from my nightstand and looked at the time, 6:35am. I have to be out of the house before eight, so I have time. I went to the bathroom to take a shower since I didn't take one last night. When I got out I got dressed in my new and improved clothes. I wore my blink-182 shirt, with a black sweater, and my black skinny jeans and my vans. I looked at the time again. 7:20am. Do I really take that long to get dressed? I ran my fingers through my hair and remembered I had to still do my hair. I went into the bathroom, surprised by my red hair, i forgot. I woke up in the middle of the night and did my hair, wait, so I took another shower for nothing?
"Joshua Dun! Hurry up!" My dad yelled angrily from downstairs. I groaned as I went downstairs. "Hurry up." My dad said pushing me out the door. We got in the car and drove to school.
When we got to my school, before I could even get out of the car my dad drove off, I fell on the sidewalk, earning weird looks from people. I got up and wiped dirt off my, now dirty, pants.
When I got into the school, there was so many people. I couldn't stand it. I struggled my way to the office to pick up my schedule.
"Hi! My name is Ms. Cox, what can I do for you?" Ms. Cox said very happily that almost made me cringe. "I'm Joshua Dun and..I need to pick up my schedule?" I said more in a question. "Ah, Joshua.." she trailed off looking into a stack of papers. "Here you go." She handed me the schedule and before I left she stopped me. "Wait, Josh." I stopped and turned around. "Yes?" I said. "I will send a student with you to help you find all your classes." She said standing up and going into a room. I sat down on the chair as I waited.
Who's gonna be my guide? I'm not gonna be friends with them, I don't wanna be friends with anyone.
Ms. Cox walked out of the room with a guy trailing behind her. I took one glimpse at the guy and it was Tyler!? Well shit.
"His name is Tyler and he is going to help you. Tyler this is Josh. Josh this is Tyler." Tyler's eyes lit up as he saw me. "Thank you. I will take good care of him." Tyler said smiling at me. "Great. Now go, don't be late." She said shooing us away with her hands.
As I was walking to my class Tyler began to talk. "So you're that guy at the store last night?" Tyler said in a question. I nodded. I wasn't ready for this, I don't want to make any drama on the first day. We stayed silent until we made it to class. Tyler sat next to me and got out his stuff. I guess he had this class with me as well.
After a lot of classes I found out I had all classes with Tyler except 2nd.
When the last class of the day, gym, came I found out I had to dress out. "Tyler I have to talk to the coach real quick. Um, can you give me a minute?" I said to Tyler in the politest way possible. "Oh yeah, I'll be over there." Tyler said pointing somewhere in the middle of the gym. I nodded and walked off to the coach.
"Uh..coach?" I asked, trying to get his attention. "Yes?" He said confidently. "Uh..um.." I didn't know how to say this. "Just say it kid." He said. "I..uh..I can't dress out cause I have..s- marks on my arms." I said, getting quieter and quieter with every word. It was true. I did have marks- scars on my arms, I hid it behind sweaters and long sleeves. The coach nodded in understanding. "Then you don't have to dress out." Was all he said. I nodded and walked off to Tyler. "Why didn't you dress out?" Tyler said looking at me like he already knew the answer. I ignored the question cause what am I suppose to say? Oh I have scars on my arms so I didn't dress out. No. "So are we playing basketball?" I said changing the subject. "Oh. Yeah." Tyler answered like he knew what I did. We played together until the bell rang.
I waited for Tyler to get dressed then walked with him out the school doors. "I have them too." Tyler said breaking the silence between us. "You have what?" I said, still walking. "Scars." He said. I swore I heard a crack in his voice when he said that. I didn't say anything back. We just kept walking. Tyler walked home while I waited for my dad.
