I'll make the perfect life.

"You done?" Lucas asked.

"Yeah." I handed him my paper.

"Was this really your childhood"

"Sure."

"Maya! Can't you take this seriously? Your childhood did not include visiting Mars." Lucas said.

"How do you know? You weren't me!"

"I know because nobody has ever been to Mars. Can't you just write a story about your life? This is easy, Maya. Even my dog can do this."

"I don't want to write about my childhood. I'll just make up one." I said.

"Maya! You have to write your childhood. I'm sure you can do that."

"Lucas, my childhood wasn't easy. I don't want people feeling sympathy for me."

"My childhood wasn't easy either."

"Oh really, did your childhood include no friends? Horrible living conditions and little food?" I saw Lucas softening up and feeling pity. But I couldn't stop. "Did your childhood include an abusive father who beat you for no reason? Do you have scars everywhere from broken beer bottles and burns from cigarettes?" I was crying and yelling now. My tears wouldn't stop.

"Maya, I'm so sorry. I didn't know-"

"No! Lucas, I don't want your pity! I don't want you to feel bad for me!"

"Maya, please calm down." Lucas said softly.

"No!" I threw my charm bracelet off and ran to the next door over, the bathroom. I slammed the door behind me. I was crying. I was so mad. I wanted to punch something, I punched the wall. A bottle of nail polish remover tipped over and spilled all over one of their fancy, embroidered towels. I threw my hands up in frustration and I made a candle fall onto the soaked towel.

"Maya, you ok? Please come out. I'm sorry." Lucas said

The towel burst up in flames.

"Uh, Lucas we have a problem. Call the fire department."

"What?! Maya! What's going on!"

I reached for the door handle, but yanking my hand back because of the heat. The flames were spreading and raising.

"Lucas! Help!"

"I'm calling the fire department. Maya please come out."

"I- I can't the handle is too hot."

"I'm coming in, Maya! Hold on!"

A chandelier fell on me and I was trapped. Lucas finally broke in.

"Maya!" Lucas ran over to me and tried to get the chandelier off me.

"Lucas, go. It's no use."

"No! I will never let you go, ever." He said while holding my hand.

Those words echoed in my mind like I've heard them before. Right! The dream! Was he the man in my dream?

The smoke was getting thicker, the air was hard to breathe in. I started coughing. Lucas had an arm over his nose and mouth, but my arms were stuck. I couldn't do anything. I couldn't breathe. It felt like someone was strangling me. I saw Lucas attempt to put an arm over my nose and mouth, then I blacked out.
