I wake up, breathing hard. Quick beeps on the big machine to my right, and a sleeping Lucas holding my hand to my right. There are thousands upon thousands of tubes in my arms, legs, neck, arm, nose, mouth, etc.
"Lucas... Lucas... Lucas!" He slowly wakes up, but when he sees that I'm up his eyes light up.
"Maya!! You're up!!!" He gets up, "Doctor, doctor!!" He yells. A man bursts through the door.
"She's up!!" Lucas is full of excitement.
"What's happening?" I ask.
The doctor calls in the nurses to come check my vitals and tubes.
"Hi sweetie, I'm Veronica and I am your nurse. You have been in a coma for 3 weeks, we didn't know if you would ever make it out. Your conditions were dropping and we couldn't find any family. But this young man comes to your room every day and sits there. Your conditions were horrible because of a tumor in your left kidney."
"What does that mean?" I say, scared for the answer,
"You have cancer, sweetie." She says before leaving.
