"Please..." I begged my laptop as I clicked the 'enter'. My laptop had only ten percent of battery life left so, I was trying to save what I had done. Apparently, doing it once again would be too much of a hassle for someone as lazy as I was.
"Don't die, don't die." I scrolled to click 'save'. Believe it or not, it was right that moment I met with a dark, rectangular screen. "Argh! Stupid technology," I mumbled as I slammed it shut.
I took the coffee on my table which the aroma elicited had me swimming in sea of paradise. I used to hate coffee to the extent that I couldn't even stand to look at it but now, I was so in love. After that moment, I believed there was a thin line between hate and love.
As I sipped my drink, my glasses was immediately obsecured by a thin layer of vapour. If you wore spectacles, I was pretty sure this was relatable. Taking my pair of glasses off, I wiped it using the hem of my blouse before putting it back on.
After a short day of classes and avoiding Adrian, I decided to do some of my homework at the coffee shop right at the corner of the street- Gloria's Delight. The afternoon sun shone through the windows in the shop, making the speckles of dust visible to our naked eyes.
I was having fun looking at the beautiful view outside of the windows when the door bell jingled. Being the nosy person that I was, I turned towards the entrance.
"Gloria, how are you? It's been a while." He asked with his raspy voice as she embraced him in a hug.
"I am good, young man. You have grown so much since you last visited," she laughed cheekily. If I wasn't mistaken, Gloria was an old woman- there was no way he could be his girlfriend.
I ignored their conversation right there and then. Somehow, I felt awkward, standing in between some affectionate exchange. Funny, I thought.
As I looked around,I didn't notice I was one of the three customers in the shop- the other twos were a couple who were, dating. How awkward.
Looking at my watch, I realised quute sometimes had passed as I daydreamed. Putting all my belongings which were scattered on the table- headphones, pencil case, files, notebooks and junk food- into my tote bag, I stood up as I clutched my laptop. I put some cash on the table and walked out of the shop.
As I stepped out of the exit, the bell jiggled once again behind me. Paying absolute no attention to it, I began to leave but that was until...
I screeched in a halt as a strong grip on my arm stopped me. Instinctively, I turned to look at the person which happened to be the swoon-worthy guy from the coffee shop.
Switching gazes between my arm and his pair of gorgeous eyes- embedded with the finest of blue, he still didn't seem to get my idea.
"Excuse me?" I coughed.
"Oh yeah. My apologies," he stated. Only then I realized, his accent was slightly different from the norms here. Whatever it was, he was different.
"Is there anything important that you needed to stop me like that?" I cut it all short. Well, I was not known to be friendly and perfectly-mannered after all.
"I didn't want to sound like a stalker to call you just like that, " he blurted, putting both his hands in his side pockets.
"Well, you might as well consider yourself a stalker, because you are acting like one now."
"What an attitude, Adoni. I heard people saying but I didn't expect it to be true," he smirked, coming closer.
"Whatever you wish. I don't talk to strangers." I said, turning on my heels, leaving him, stranded verbally behind.
I wondered what had gotten with the universe as strangers kept popping out in my lives, bringing more troubles than harms. If it was someone who would help me to finish my assignment, I would treat them like the friend of my life. I laughed at my own joke.
His loud voice pulled me out of my reverie.
"I just came to warn you about my brother, Adoni. He is trouble- a trouble that would only bring misery into your live. Stay away from the king of danger himself."
I stood paralysed ad he finished. I found myself drowning in a sea of confusion as to what he was referring to. Turning around, our eyes met.
"Who the heck are you?" I snapped.
"Your knight in the shining armour, princess."
"What a sick joke."
"Well, I am just someone you will thank one day," he said, backing away in the direction of Gloria's Delight.
"Good that you're going back to your mama," I yelled.
With a frustrated sigh, I left with an exhausted mental and body.
After ten minutes of walk home, I got to my apartment. I insterted the key to unlock the door and with a click, it opened. Walking in, I switched on the light.
What I saw next, scared the hell out of me. There it was, a dark figure. Leaning against the kitchen counter as it scrbled through my refrigerator. My first thought was it could be a thief, who was well, hungry. I grabbed the broom right beside the door. I advanced forward, as stealthily as possible.
When it heard my footsteps, he turned to look at me. Just by his look, I put my guards down.
"Adrian?"
"Hey," he greeted as he raised the canned drink he was holding.
"How did you get in?"
"Summarizing everything up, he believed that I was your boyfriend."
"Come on guys! Give me a break," I whined.
"I brought pizzas. You just have it, I'll leave so you can rest."
Oh boy, he did an excellent job at making me feel ultimately guilty.
"It's okay. Let's dig in then," I said, exasperation was clear in my tone.
What a day was I having.
