--- Time skip to week of the ball---

It had just been one of those kinds of days. Last week was horrible. I was still having nightmares about it… even without the toxin I constantly had to drink now. Derik was the only person who would even talk to me anymore.

“Come on Tessa, not you too.” I sighed and stood in front of my very mad friend.

“I don’t trust him Trina, and neither should you. He’s got bad vibes all around him.” She shuddered. We just stared at each other down the long and currently empty hallway of school.

“Josh and the boys already refuse to talk to me because of stuff like this.” I sighed. “Not you too.”

“Maybe if you listened to us it wouldn’t be this way.” She frowned at me.

“Why are you all so negative towards him?”

“Derik is bad Katrina, we can just tell.”

“Why? Because he’s different.” I was growling. “You know half the people here think I’m different and I won’t treat him like they have me.”

“So this is some self-righteous thing then?” she yelled back, causing me to pause.

“No. It’s not.” I said lowly. “It’s simply one person looking out for another.”

“Whatever Katrina, when you drop him, let us all know.” She said walking away.

I shook my head to try and clear the memory. That happened about three days ago on our way home. I had started to get my attacks again in the middle of the night and I was always on edge at school.

“Katrina.” Derik called as he walked up to me on our way to the auditorium. “What’s all this about you think?”

“I have no idea.” I smiled at him. The two of us sat down in the back where it was curently unoccupied. All the sophomores, juniors, and seniors were in here today and there stood our principle on the stage.

“I’m happy to announce that we’ve extended job shadowing to all of you this year.” He smiled happily down to all of us; I froze and my eyes widened. “The only stipulation for you older kids is that you MUST go to the SAME place you shadowed previously.” There was a bunch more of the lecture and then all these different business men got up to convince the sophomores to visit them.

“Katrina…” I heard Derik mutter. He knew about just about everything that happened last year. I didn’t really tell him my relationship with the Crazies of Gotham, but he understood enough.

“I… I…” I kept stuttering and put my head in my hands.

“Job shadowing is MANDATORY for all students.” Our genius principle announced causing me to nearly die. I jumped up and ran out of the auditorium, heading for my bike. I whipped out my phone and dialed Gordon’s number, already on the way to his office.

“Katrina?”

“Gordon.” I choked. “Please tell me you’re not busy.”

“Not in the slightest. What’s going on?” he said worriedly.

“I’m coming.” I said before hanging up. In a matter of minutes I was at the front of the building and then in his office. He was sitting there waiting for me, a cup of hot chocolate on the desk.

“What happened?” he frowned at me. I ran behind the desk and gave him a hug, trying to hold myself together.

“They’re sending me back to Arkham, I have to go.” I muttered and he rubbed my back. “Please tell me he’s not there?”
