Chapter 11

As soon as I woke up my heart started thumping harder. The memories of last night’s events started flooding my mind and I started to grin like idiot. But my happiness faded away when I turned around and noticed the space next to me was empty. It was probably all just a dream. With a defended sigh I stood up, pulled my shorts down a little bit since they slid up at night and walked downstairs into the kitchen where I found my dad, Anna and Sam sitting at the table talking to each other. I put on a smile walking over to my dad and gave him a kiss on his cheek before sitting down next to Sam.

»Morning guys.« Anna waved at me with a little smile before turning back to her conversation with dad and I looked over at Sam.

»Hey.« Her voice sounded hoarse but the grin on her face made it sound kind of cute. I willed myself to pry away my eyes off her and started to eat slowly. Well… most of the time I played with it. I just couldn’t bring myself to eat really anything. »You alright?« Sam nudged my shoulder and I answered her with a small smile and a mumbled “Mhm”.

»You know what? I’m still pretty sleepy so I’ll just go to sleep again.« I mumbled before standing up and heading to my bedroom. When I was about to close the door something blocked it. I turned around to see it was Sam. She looked worried as she stepped into the room and shut the door behind her.

»What’s wrong?« She placed her hands on my cheeks brushing her thumbs across them. My eyes shut close as I placed my hands over hers pushing them away from me. »Colbs?« I shook my head taking a few steps away from before I opened my eyes again to see a hurt expression on her face. »Did I do something wrong?«

»Just leave me alone…« Tears were threatening to escape my eyes so I turned around and walked over to the window trying to calm myself down. A deep breath was followed by another one before I felt two arms hugging me from behind. I leaned into the body behind and buried my face into their hair deeply inhaling the scent of strawberries.

»Are you made at me?« I gently shook my head. »Is it because of yesterday? If you don’t feel the same way about me, don’t worry. I’ll leave you alone. You only have to tell me, Colbs.«

»So it was real?« I turned around in Sam’s arms to face her. »It wasn’t a dream?« She started to chuckle after I said that and shook her head almost frantically before she stopped and sighed quietly.

»Does that feel real enough?« She asked me before gently pressing her lips against mine. My eyes closed slowly as I started to feel the same warm feeling inside of me that I felt yesterday. The kiss was sweet, gentle and slow. It felt like our lips were made for each other. Like we were made for each other. But all too soon we had to break apart because of the lack of oxygen. I bit my bottom lip as I stared into her eyes. »So?«

»It definitely felt real enough.« I whispered to her pressing my forehead against hers. After a few moments I took a deep breath and stepped out of her embrace. I walked over to the bed and sat down looking at the ground. »How are we going to handle this? I mean… Are we going to make it public or hide it for a while? After the marriage of my dad and Anna we’ll be sisters… You know? Isn’t that illegal or something?«

»Colby…« Sam laughed as she sat down next to me. »First of all: No it isn’t illegal. We aren’t related. Nor will we be sisters. We’ll be cousins I guess. But since we aren’t blood related it won’t be illegal. At least I think so. They couldn’t keep me from being you anyways. Alright?« She explained placing her hand on mine. »And second: I don’t care if we go public or not. If you want yes, if you don’t then no. You’ll decide.«

»Is it okay if we keep it a secret for a while? I didn’t tell my dad or Josh about me being gay so I’ll need some time to figure out how I’m going to tell them. Okay?«
