Some Nights - Chapter One

The old man sat back in his large chair, eyes fazed with shock. He seems to be pondering the answer to this mystery. His focus snaps back to my small frame, eyes flickering with curiosity.

"How did this even happen?" The Hokage's eyes swim with sympathy and pity. Man, I hate pity.

Acknowledging his sympathy, I scowl and let out a low growl. "That is none of your business."

"Don't ever speak to the Hokage like that!" Kakashi sounds angry, looking anxious and alert.

"I can do what I want, where I want, and when I want to." A dark scowl fades into a cold sneer. "I don't need a parent, I lost mine."

Kakashi raises his hands in defense, one towards his jacket and one towards my arm. "Now you listen here little girl." God, chill.

"I have a name, you know."

"Amaya, whoever you are. You will not speak to your elders like that, especially one who deserves respect. I will attack you by all means." He looks quite frustrated, causing a smirk to spread across my lips.

"Silence Kakashi." A ring of smoke floats into the air from the Hokage's pipe. "I am quite surprised at your attitude. It is quite interesting to see one talk to big for a size so small. Hmm.."

I tap my foot repeatedly in annoyance. I would never imagine that I would be stuck in this kind of troublesome situation. I brush a strand of brown hair out of my face again. A bored expression conceals my annoyed expression, earning a small glare from Kakashi. Someone had their lucky charms taken out of their cereal this morning.

After a few minutes, the Hokage looks up. "Amaya Amaterasu. I would like you to join the Village Hidden in the Leaves and attend the Ninja Academy. As we do not know your skill level or your amount of training. This will be put into effect immediately, if you do not mind. They are soon to have an exam."

"What?!" My bright green eyes widened, full of shock and anger. "You can't enroll me into your stupid Village just because you want me to! What if I want to be somewhere else, huh? What makes you so powerful? You're just an old man!"

Kakashi, ready to attack, was slipping a hand inside of his vest. He focused his attention on the old man, expecting some kind of signal to start an attack. But to his utter surprise, the Hokage broke out into a wheezy laugh. Kakashi looks pissed, sending me a you're-dead glare.

"You would definitely be an advantage to our Village. And no, you do not have much of a choice or I'll let Kakashi kill you. Here is your house number and I'll talk to you tomorrow morning to arrange this out. The Academy will be near your house; Kakashi show her the home and the Academy."

"Hai." Kakashi turned to face my direction but I was already heading towards the door. Too slow. "Where do you think you're going? You'll get lost!"

"To my house? Where else could I possibly be going? Narnia?" I let out a sharp growl of annoyance as Kakashi leads me out of the Hokage's building. "I can find places my self, I don't need a guy who tried to kill me earlier lead me to my house."

I hear a small chuckle. "Maybe I'm trying to find where you live so I can finish my job from earlier."

"Don't count on it." A smirk etches itself across my lips. "I'm not an easy kill like the other kids you know."

Don't let him know anything! A loud growl of annoyance echoes through my mind, causing my head to throb. Damn, someone's grumpy.

Shut up already. You know I wouldn't tell anyone. A small sigh escapes my lips, causing Kakashi to look over in concern. He continues walking and doesn't ask anything, which I am grateful for. I have to admit, I really hate questions. I'm not a machine.

"Well, this is it. It isn't much, but I believe that it will be enough." We stop in front of a tall, two story house. Elegant designs are engraved in the wood decorating. Neatly trimmed bushes line the front of the house, prompt and kempt. The white walls remind me of freshly fallen snow. A nice, large porch decorates the front of the house neatly. Plants are growing neatly in the backyard, clusters of the same kind. It reminds me of the sky almost? I don't know, I'm crazy.

"It's really nice. Better than I expected." A small smirk forms on my face. Kakashi rolls his eyes at my low expectations. "You can go now pedo."

His visible eye closes and lets out a sigh. "Fine. Don't do anything stupid." He waves a hand and disappears in a cloud of smoke.

Grumbling, I unlock the door to my house with the pair of keys the Hokage gave me. I glance inside of the house and nod my head in approval.

Nice, light-colored wood covers the floor, bringing out the black and white furniture. Elegant carvings in the wood add a perfect touch to the embroidery against the walls. A unique fireplace stretches up to the ceiling. The neutral, tan walls let the eyes focus on the furniture and embroidery. A fluffy white couch sits comfortably in the living room. A few golden lamps lie on the carved cabinets against the wall. Black railings and a staircase beckon me to travel upstairs.

Lightly stepping, I travel up the light-colored staircase, running my right hand against the black railing. The upstairs looks vaguely similar: neutral, tan walls, light-colored flooring, elegant trim along the walls. The only difference is the rooms.

I walk into what seems to be my bedroom. Soft, black carpet greets my bare feet. A queen sized bed lies against the wall. Soft, white sheets and a comforter decorate the base of the bed, while a black headboard and black pillows decorate the back. A tall, white lamp stands to the left of the bed as a white bed-side table is placed on the right.

Exhausted, I fall onto the plush bed, sprawling across it. My thoughts begin to drift to today's events. I saw the town's troublemaker, apparently a boy around my age named Naruto? I got caught by a Jonin, I presume, and taken into custody. At least the Hokage has a little bit of sense. I was given a house, which is better than I expected. Well, they could have given me some ramen and dango, but that's asking a lot.

A sigh escapes my lips, wishing I could actually sleep. If it weren't for a particular demon inside of me. I prepare for some kind of rude comment from my inner demon, knowing he doesn't take things lightly.

That's right. You better respect those stronger than you; I won't do that much damage if you fall asleep, you know. A voice echoes in my head, luring me with an enchanting voice.

I would never fall for that. Now leave me alone. I throw up a wall of chakra to completely isolate my mind to my own thoughts. An annoyed groan escapes my lips and I bury my head in the pillows, waiting for what tomorrow brings.
