Some Nights - Chapter Five
I sit down on a bench in a secluded forest area along the edge of the village. A slight yet sudden gust startles the tree leaves, yet I stay, unmoving. My hair betrays my stone-like stance, as it flutters with the sharp breeze.
The wolf next to me looks up at my face with concern, looking for any sign of emotion. A small whine breaks the silence, but not for very long. A shuffling sound of paws startled a few small creatures that scurry along the ground.
"Milady.. do you need to speak with Shadow? I can go fetch him if you'd like.."
I reply in silence. A cold, unwavering silence that sends chills down Luna's spine. She shifts uncomfortably, feeling guilty with herself that there is nothing she can do.
"Well.. I should be heading back to the pack now. They probably are missing me. Take care, Milady." Luna turns sadly and vanishes in a cloud of smoke.
I scuff my feet against the gravel. I turn to my right, looking at the combat boots that I took off a half hour ago. Reaching down, I pick up the boots in my left hand and stand up from the bench. My feet make absolutely no sound as I press on down the path.
The sun begins to set, letting it's bright colors bleed into the sky. Shadows begin to crawl out from their hiding places and make themselves comfortable along the ground. The trees have a darker hue to them, making the forest seem almost black.
This doesn't faze me at all. Darkness is a friend of mine, leading me down my chosen path. The cool, rough rocks greet my feet whenever I take a step closer towards my goal. My dark brown hair glides smoothly with the wind, flowing behind my walking figure.
An owl hoots in the distance, craning it's head to have a good look at it's surroundings. It's wide eyes spot me. I watch as it's pupils dilate as the bird analyzes me. It nods stiffly, turning back towards the path. I proceed walking, listening closely to my surroundings.
The gravel slowly subsides from underneath my feet. The rough rocks are replaced with soft sand, still slightly warm from the suns previous rays. A small smile etches itself on my face as I watch my feet leave footprints in the sand. I turn back around, smelling the air for signs of arrival.
A cool breeze wafts the scent of a lake towards me. I appreciate the smell, picking up my pace. My feet stop in front of a small lake's edge. Little waves surround my feet, washing away the sand that stuck to them.
Smiling, I sit down on a rock and let my feet move with the water. It's so peaceful, I almost forget what I ran out here for. Almost.
An annoyed sigh escapes my figure. Pressing my fingers against my temples, I let out a small whimper due to the pressure inside of my head. Cursing inwardly, I know it had to be from stress. Or a rather large demon.
A drop of water lands in the middle of the lake. I instantly freeze, watching the ripples flow through the lake. My eyes trail to the sky, noticing no signs of clouds. Something is moving in the water. It's large..
A large, serpent-like creature darts out from the depths of the lake. Odd, changing scales gleam in the moonlight that is seeping through the canopy of leaves. Only twenty feet of the creature comes above the water. It's large, serpent-like head swings towards my direction, it's large and striking blue eyes taking in my appearance. It's eyes widen slightly. The creature lets out a soft snort and makes it's way towards me.
I'm not scared of the creature for some reason. I actually am entranced. I watch it push powerfully through the water, shaking off the water droplets that are cascading down it's massive scales.
