"We've found a survivor Inquisitor!" Called out one of soldiers, out of breath. "She was in the courtyard, away from the blast. We caught her trying to escape!" He panted.
"Have her restrained and brought to the dungeons at once, She and I are going to have a little talk." Haylie ordered. "Right away m'lady." Replied the guard with and awkward bow. Haylie took a deep breath as she looked at the destruction around her. "Well. I suppose it could've been much worse. Causalities Cullen?" she asked with a sigh. "Only a few. They were surprisingly sloppy in their efforts but they outnumbered us greatly. But I'd say that won't pose much of a problem now." Cullen said, shooting a smirk at the Inquisitor's small bump. "Yes...You could say that." Haylie half chuckled. "Are you alright, Inquistor?" Cullen asked, his face suddenly turning serious. "I will be fine, make sure our men and women are tended to." Haylie answered.
Lavellan made her way down to the dungeons where a skinny elven woman of no more than sixteen was tightly bound and squirming. "Don't kill me! Please, I-I mean you no harm!" The elf begged. Haylie was unsure rather to be angry or sympathetic. She wasn't expecting someone so young and vulnerable looking... "Relax." Haylie said half sternly and half soothingly. "I'm not planning on hurting you. I just want to know who you're working for and what they want with me." she sighed.
The elf girl's eyes darkened. "They're the order of knives, I-I don't where they are, they use magical wards to conceal their location, you have to be invited in through a portal, but this must've been a mistake please! I was told this was a simple retrieval mission!" She pleaded "They tried kill my friends and kidnap me, they said they wanted my baby...Why?" Haylie asked frustratedly.
"They believe your...your baby is part of some prophecy, I don't know much I'm too young to officially join. I wasn't even supposed to be here... I had no idea there would be so much bloodshed...not by them, they were my family" The girl said shakily.
"What do they know of my child? The only people who know of my child's power lie within these walls." Haylie panicked.
"You must believe me...I truly don't know how they know, they deal heavily in information." The elf cried.
"Tell me everything you know." Haylie demanded.
"Our leader, Javaris says the child would ensure the victory of all our battles. He said the elves of Thedas would rise above all humans, and no longer be slaves of man!" The elf girl explained. "This order, what are you? Vigilantes? Assassins?" Haylie asked impatiently. "No. Scholars. We wish to end the mistreatment of elves, by restoring the former order." The girl explained.
Haylie went quiet for a moment. "If you really want to end the mistreatment of elves I can help you. But not like this." Haylie said.
"Don't you see? He believes this is the only way! The prophesy claims the child will be an end to elven as we know them, both new and ancient. Javaris believes that the child will destroy all elvenkind without intervention! He'll never listen to you..." The girl pleaded. "The only intervention in my child's fate will be mine. However noble your goal, I cannot allow this to stand. Your order killed my soldiers and nearly killed my associates and friends." Haylie said sternly.
"They told me you planned to use the child to conquer Thedas and that they were rescuing them from a life of evil, they said if the child's powers aren't controlled they will destroy the world..."
"My daughter is not some political pawn! I don't know what lead them to believe this but they're sorely mistaken." Haylie said angrily. "If anyone can help her control her magic it will be me and the very many skilled mages under this roof." Haylie explained
"Are you going to kill me?" The little elf whimpered.
Haylie but her lip, "Have her work with the mages in the tower for now. If she steps out of line have her brought back here." Haylie ordered.
"You're letting me live?!" the elf gasped.
"Most would have me kill or imprison you for putting my child and friends in danger. But I'm granting you mercy because I believe what you say is true. Don't make me regret this decision." Haylie said firmly.
The guards untied the girl, gave a quick salute and began escorting her from the dungeons.
"Wait!" Haylie called after them.
There was a pause, the girl flinched at the sudden halt.
"What is your name?" Haylie asked.
"Mirianna" the girl answered quietly.
