December 18th: Day 3

"Morning Noelle," my mother kissed my cheek as she joined me for breakfast.

"Morning," I smiled as I munched on a cracker. I had never been good with breakfasts. I couldn't eat at before 9 in the morning, so half past 7 wasn't really a good time for me. Fortunately, Christmas break would start that afternoon at 1pm, so for the upcoming two weeks I could have breakfast whenever I wanted.

"Do you have any plans for this afternoon?" my mom asked me as she made herself a sandwich. "I thought we could maybe go Christmas shopping for the family, to give everyone a little gift when they come celebrate here."

I smiled. "That'd be nice."

As if Sean knew I was about to make plans, my phone buzzed. He had send me a message.

Hi. Be sure not to wear your fancy clothes today. I am taking you Christmas tree shopping. What time can I pick you up? Sean.

"Oh sorry mom, I can't go. I—I have plans," I gave her an apologetic smile and she frowned. "I thought Zoë was going away for the weekend?"

"She is," I nodded, "but I have other friends than Zoë, mom."

She laughed. "I know, honey, I'm sorry. You just always make plans with Zoë," she sat down beside me to eat her breakfast. "What are you going to do today then?"

I bit my lip and looked at my cracker. She was probably going to ask me everything about who Sean was, how I had gotten to know him. Then she'd probably call me a fool because I didn't know him at all and then she'd laugh because of his attempt to make me love the winter season.

"Me and m-my new friend, Sean, are going to go Christmas tree shopping for his house," I looked at her from the corner of my eye to spot her reaction. I had not expected her to nod. I thought she was going to choke on her breakfast.

"Sounds nice," she nodded. "So, who is this Sean guy I have never heard about before?" she shot me a wink and my eyes widened.

"Oh no, mom, it's nothing like that. He doesn't see me like that. That'd be crazy. He's good looking and all that, but it's not like that," I rambled and when I saw her lips twitching, I knew she had been making a joke. "Never mind."

She laughed. "But what's this tree shopping about? I thought you didn't like anything that had to do with Christmas or winter or your birth month?"

"Well," I started, "Sean and I met in the bookstore when I was getting mad at him for pushing me aside in the queue. Later he handed me his number through the girl behind the counter and he asked me if I could give him the chance to let him convince me why the winter season is amazing."

"Zoë was nagging about it for such a long time that I eventually texted him and yesterday we properly met and got to know each other a little better. So that I wouldn't think he is a creep," I laughed. "So, he has.. 8 days, I think, left to convince me."

"Well, you better text him then," she smiled at me. I nodded.

Hi, sounds okay :p. You can pick me up around 1pm. Noelle.

"He sounds cute though," mom winked at me from behind the newspaper, "do you have a picture?"

I shook my head. "Nope, but his name is Sean Carter so you can probably stalk him on Facebook now that you know that," I grinned at her, knowing she did that a lot. I looked at my phone to see it was almost time to head to school and also saw Sean had already replied.

Alright then, 1pm it is. Thank god I don't have classes today. Also, we're going to my house to decorate the tree. See you soon. Sean.

I put it back in my pocket, grabbed my bag, waved my mom goodbye and headed towards the bus stop. It was the last day of school. Something inside me still hadn't processed that. School had been stressing me more than ever before the last half year so this Christmas break was a real breath of fresh air.
