December 22nd: Day 7
Let's just say the snow hadn't stopped coming down from the sky till the very morning. I did not know how it had happened, it rarely ever snowed here, but let's just call it a Christmas miracle. Of course Sean was insanely excited when he saw it was snowing and in all his excitement he had forgotten to tell me he was going to pick me up at freaking 8 o'clock in the morning.
Let me just say I was not very happy to have him and Lilly banging on my door that early. My parents were both off to work and I was alone. I had woken up early, around 7, but I had only gotten a shower into comfy jeans and a nice sweater. I had not done my makeup yet. Believe me, I did need it.
"You have got to be kidding me," I groaned as I opened the front door to see the excited Carter siblings. "Guys, it is way too early, I haven't even done my makeup yet. I look like a mess," I sighed. "Maybe later today?"
"Oh no Noelle, you're coming with us now. Put on something warm and we'll see you outside in 5 minutes," Sean smirked at me and I gave him a glare.
"My make-up will not be finished in 5 minutes, Carter," I groaned and he just kept smirking. "Just go get changed, Hastings, we don't mind your makeup-less face."
"You'll regret saying that," I said as I gave him one last glare before letting them in. I seated them down on the couch and sprinted upstairs to get changed into some warmer clothes. I managed to put some mascara on, but I would have to leave everything else. Sean was going to come get me otherwise and I did not want him to see my bedroom.
"Alright, let's go," I sighed as I walked down the stairs.
Lilly and Sean jumped up from the couch and we all made our way outside. Fortunately, there was a lovely small park nearby so we could just walk there. Lilly kept making small snowballs that she would throw at either my or Sean's legs. I did not mind, they were very harmless.
"I told you, you didn't need it," Sean smiled at me as we were nearing the small park. "You look lovely."
Before I could say anything, Lilly had jumped on his back. Sean fake groaned and started to run around in the snow, for as far that was possible. It surprised me he didn't slip. I couldn't help but smile though when Lilly kept laughing because of her brother. It was quite a cute picture.
I was so in my thoughts that I did not notice they were whispering things in each other's ear, looking at me every 3 seconds. Before I knew it, they were running towards me and I could not escape. Sean wrapped his arms around my waist, lifting me off the ground while Lilly threw snow at me.
"Noo!" I squealed, half laughing. "Please! Please have mercy!" I laughed as Lilly kept laughing, throwing more snow at herself than at me as it left her hands.
"Not until you say you love winter," Sean chuckled. His lips were against my hair and I could feel his warm breath on my neck. Holy shit.
"Never!" I laughed, my legs kicking in the air as I tried to escape. It was no use though. Sean had a grip on me and Lilly didn't grow tired of throwing snow. She was having so much fun, it was insanely cute.
"Alright, alright!" I giggled, "I love winter!"
As soon as I had said that, Sean put me down on the ground again and Lilly started screaming happily, dancing around me. I laughed at her and saw Sean smiling at me. Maybe I had not really meant saying it, but some part of it had been true. I didn't mind being out in the snow like this. It was fun, being out here.
"I smell victory," Sean chuckled as he took a step closer to me.
"Yes, mine," I stuck out my tongue. We both knew that was a joke, because I had not been moody at all the past week. I had had so much fun and yes, it was because of Sean a lot, but I had also realized I didn't mind winter.
I had changed in such a short time. Maybe it was because I did not have a sad story to hate the winter for, maybe it was just because I had never found a reason to like it. Now I had. It was a dangerous reason though. Maybe the source for my winter fun would be gone soon and I would maybe never see it again. If it would leave me, winter would be like it had always been to me. Crap.
"Come on Noelle, let's build a snowman!" Lilly giggled as she took my hand in hers and dragged me to a place where there was a little bit more snow. I couldn't help but smile at her happiness again and helped her build the snowman. She did not want it to be a big one, it had to be her size. That resulted into us being done quite soon.
"You didn't even help," I nudged Sean with my elbow and he chuckled. "Watching you two build a snowman was fun enough."
I laughed and watched how Lilly added some buttons to the snowman's body. "Do you want to take a picture with it?" I smiled as I took out my phone.
Lilly nodded excitedly and posed next to the snowman with a big smile on her face. After I had taken the picture, she ran up to me and took the phone out of my hands. "Your turn now," she giggled as she pushed me and Sean towards the snowman.
I stood next to the snowman as Sean stood next to me and smiled at the camera. Lilly's face showed she had some trouble with it, but soon enough I heard the sound of a photo being taken and she smiled happily, knowing she had done a good job.
"Lovely," I smiled as I took a quick look at the picture.
We spent the whole day in the snow, getting some lunch at a small shop nearby. I had had so much fun, which I had never thought would happen. I was slowly giving in to the wonderful, festive season. Not even slowly, I was on 85% in my own eyes. I had failed, but I did not mind. I had been defeated, but I did not mind. I was happy about it.
"We need to go now," Sean smiled at Lilly, "you have singing class in an hour."
"Oh," Lilly looked at me with a sad smile. "Will you come by tomorrow and bake cookies with us?"
I smiled and crotched down to speak to her. "I would love to," I stroked her cheek. "Maybe we can also watch Barbie movies then while we wait for them to bake. I have lots of old ones at home, some I bet you have never seen."
She shook her head, "I have only seen the new ones."
"Great, that's a deal then," I smiled and stood up straight again to say goodbye to Sean. "I had fun today, thank you."
"No problem," he smiled and he took Lilly's hand to take her to the car.
Lilly waved at me and I waved back. "I know you're not Sean's girlfriend, but I like you better than his last one anyway," she giggled before getting into the car. I smiled at her and giggled.
Sean just chuckled and made his way to his side of the car. I opened my front door and turned around to see he still hadn't started the car. "For the record," he smirked as he got in, "I agree."
I stood there frozen in shock and when I snapped out of it, he had already shut the door and started the car. Waving at Lilly one last time, I stepped into the house and closed the door behind me. I slid down the wall and took a deep breath.
What had just happened?
