December 17th: Day 2

This was one of those days where I was a complete loner in the small break before my last period. All of my friends had already finished all of their classes and I was left with a stupid 45 minutes of Management. I finished that at 3.20pm and then I'd have to wait for Sean to pick me up.

Zoë had been completely crazy about everything I told her that happened the day before. She was really trying to play matchmaker and she was constantly nagging me about the fact that Sean was going to be my boyfriend soon. I really wanted her to stop it, but she just didn't. If she was constantly talking about him as boyfriend material, I would probably start thinking of him as the potential guy to be my very first boyfriend. That was wrong, probably annoying to him, and just painful.

As I was eating my cookie to kill some time, I thought of texting Sean. I could just tell him to pick me up at 3.30 if that'd be possible, otherwise I'd have to wait for 40 minutes. That was a little long.

I really didn't know what to expect from him. I was scared and also a bit excited. I may seem crazy being excited about something stupid like this, but guys never gave me attention, so this was new. Oh god, there we go again with the boyfriend material-situation. STOP IT, NOELLE.

I really wanted to just be myself around him. It was no use to be flirty and to try to be attractive. It was also no use to just push him off the whole time. I should just let the situation come over me and do what feels right. If that ended up with me being sarcastic and kind of mean, I should let that be.

Hi, can you come pick me up at 3.30? I didn't really think about when my period would end, so that time would be a lot more useful to me. Noelle.

I mean, this was already a little weird and me trying to be someone else would make it even more weird. God, what was I even talking about? I didn't even know what his plans were. Maybe he'd just talk to me about winter and December and then realize nothing was going to change my mind. Then he'd leave.

Sure. I'll see you then. Prepare yourself for a lot of Christmas music in the car! Sean.

Oh god no.

After making my workbook a big book of doodles, I made my way to my locker in the almost empty hallway. I was taking deep breaths as I took the two books I needed for the holidays, I'd take the rest with me tomorrow, and put on my coat. I closed the locker and made my way to the parking lot.

I looked around and in the left corner I saw him standing there. He was a couple minutes early. On his face was a big grin and he waved at me.

I awkwardly waved back and started to make my way towards him. His car looked quite expensive for someone his age and I wondered if he came from one of those wealthy families in town. Probably.

"Hello there," he smiled at me as I stood by his car.

"Hi," I gave him a small smile as I pulled my scarf a little tighter around my neck. It was cold outside and I was looking forward to sitting inside with a cup of hot chocolate.

He opened the door to the passenger's seat for me and I gave him a thankful nod. It was already getting awkward since I wasn't talking much. I had always been a shy person, only when someone would make me talk or if I knew the people I was with well, I was open.

He got in on his side and sat down. I looked at him for a second and he looked at me before he started the car. The radio started blasting Christmas music instantly and I laughed at the sudden volume. He smiled at me and turned it down a little bit before driving off the parking lot.

"So, to be formal," he started, "I am Sean Carter, 21 years old, born and raised in this little town and a winter season lover."

I chuckled. "Alright, I am Noelle Hastings, almost 18 years old, also born and raised here and I love the summer."
