"What did I do to have such a beautiful daughter?" my dad wrapped his arm around my shoulder as I was finishing my makeup. I was wearing my favorite black dress with tights and high heels for once, red lipstick and a cute antler hairband. I was really festive for my doing.
I chuckled. "Let's not talk about my production," I gave him a kiss on the cheek, leaving a little bit of a mark and quickly wiped it off. "You look great too dad."
"Why, thank you darling," he smiled and he kissed my cheek. "Let's go downstairs, shall we? Your siblings are already here."
A smile appeared on my face and we quickly walked down the stairs. My brother and sister always came before the rest of my mother's family came, because they wanted to catch up on things. They lived in the big city with their boy- and girlfriend and we didn't talk as much as we used to.
"Tom! Fiona!" I squealed and nearly jumped on them to hug them. I was so happy they were here and that they were staying until my birthday on the 28th. Fortunately we had enough spare rooms.
They gladly hugged me back and we exchanged 'Merry Christmas' before I quickly went to hug Gabby and Nick as well. We all sat down on the couches and chairs that stood there, talking about everything that happened.
Tom had gotten a promotion and Fiona was close to one, while Ally was finishing her last year of college and Nick was looking for ways to improve his job. Unlucky for me, my mom brought up Sean and suddenly all eyes were on me.
As we were quite an open family, I told them everything, except for the awkward kiss. I just told them I was sure he did not like me in the way they thought he did. We were just friends and I was, I am such a big liar, completely fine with that. I just told them I was really excited Sean and Lilly were coming and ensured them they would love Lilly.
Around 4pm, the doorbell rang and the first guests arrived. We always celebrated Christmas Day with my mom's family, because my dad's lived in the Netherlands. Luckily for them, the Dutch have two Christmas days, so we would always skype on Boxing Day.
When my grandparents, my aunt and uncle and their daughter with her boyfriend and my cousin and his girlfriend and his little sister, who was my age, were in the doorbell rang again and I opened the door with a huge smile on my face when I saw it was Sean and Lilly.
"Happy Christmas!" I squealed and I hugged Lilly tightly, giving Sean a more awkward hug before letting them in. I was happy Lilly wasn't really shy, so she had quickly warmed the hearts of the rest of the family. Sean seemed to do well too as a first impression, because even my brother seemed to get along with him.
"You look gorgeous," Sean smiled at me as I walked up to him to hand him a glass of champagne.
A blush crept to my cheeks and I gave him a quick smile, whispering a 'thank you', before continuing to hand out glasses.
It was when the rest of the family was in, meaning my uncle, his girlfriend and her son, my aunt and uncle and their two little boys of Lilly's age, we all sat down in a circle to unwrap all of the gifts that lay under the Christmas tree.
Soon enough the room was filled with ruined wrapping paper. I had decided to give Sean and Lilly their presents a little later, when it was less busy and they wouldn't be under the constant eye of my way too curious family.
My parents had gotten me a new camera, my sister and Nick had gotten me two new books, my brother had given me a Hobbit calendar for the new year and Gabby got me some baking books. I was happy they were all happy with my presents.
"Let's go sit on the couch and then you can unwrap your presents," I smiled as I took Lilly's hand and led her and Sean to the couch.
She happily unwrapped all the presents with a big smile on her face. There were many Disney and Barbie items, but when she saw the Rapunzel dress I had bought for her, she jumped off the couch. "I have to put this on for Christmas!"
