Chapter 23: The Escape

Two days have past since the planning of escape and Zuno was now back in his room. Zuno packed up his things and Sam also did. They were getting ready to make their escape.

"Say Zuno, why don't you just tell the headmaster that you want to resign?" Sam wondered. "

Well first, they will never let me go, knowing that I'm the only shadow summoner. Second, by telling them, they will have guards all over me all the time minimizing our chance to escape." Zuno made clear. "We go out silently."

"Before we go, I must ask once again, why do you have to leave this seemingly heavenly place for magic users like us?" Sam asked.

"Look, all that I know is someone is forcefully making shadows do things in other words control them. And guess what kind of power can make that happen?"

"I see; I get it. Alright, it's all clear now, let's go."

The two left their room and headed outside to the frontyard. There they hid behind a bush. Wize was already there waiting for them.

"Ready?" Wize said. Sam and Zuno nodded. There were two guards by the teleporter.

"How do we plan to do this again?" Sam was afraid.

"We punch our way out, a.k.a use magic, we need someone to walk up to the guards distracting them." Zuno and Wize both looked at Sam.

Sam walked slowy towards the guards, "ehm, pardon me, but could I perhaps use the teleporter?"

"You know the rules, no one leaves unless with the approval of a mentor or the headmaster." A guard replied.

Zuno and Wize casted a spell from behind, "Shade!" "Ember!" Zuno called a shadow to distract the guards while Wize shot fire at the guards.

"Protection!" Both of the guards created a shield in front of them. "Get back to your room kids, before you cause more trouble."

Zuno and Wize stood beside Sam, "sorry sir, madam, but we have to use that teleporter." Zuno said.

"On whose permission?" The guard asked again.

"Mine." Exus came from the academy, "They have my permission."

"Y--yeah, his permission." Sam reassured, "does he know we were getting out of here?" He asked.

"No, let's just go with it I guess." Zuno answered.

"You did not have to attack us you know, we could just let you through since you have mentor Exus's permission." The guard giggled.

"May I have a word with you guys for a bit?" Exus asked the three. They came to Exus. "I know what you're up to, and I'm fully aware the danger you have by staying here, I wanted to tell you back at the hospital, but it wasn't the right time. You should not take side in this war, go on your own way, figure out your path. I know the royalties will try to persuade you to stay here, your parents are still at the royal palace right?" He whispered.

"Oh great, I completely forgot about my parents staying there. What should we do?" Zuno asked.

"As long as you stay low, your parents should be fine, the royals are not the type to kill a person to force someone to do something, now go. I'll make up a story to the headmaster and the others. Fight for what's right." Exus explained. After that the three stood at the teleporter and went out of the mountain.

They appeared just outside of the mountain, in the woods. "Well, that went better than expected." Sam said.

"Stay sharp, we are still in Andeenan territory. Where the heck is Arya?" Wize warned.

"She should be close by." Zuno said. Then, a whistle was heard, Arya came bringing two horses.

"Hello, sorry for the wait, I had to steal them haha." Arya joked about. Zuno and Arya were on the same horse and Wize was with Sam. "Where to now?" She asked.

"Far away from here, follow my gut I guess. There has to be a safe place somewhere in the land without borders." Zuno decided.

The four ventured across the Andeenan forest for a few hours until the sun almost set. "We should be out of their territory once we get out of this forest. Then, we should rest." Arya advised.

"Stop, someone is watching us." Zuno observed. He went down of his horse and so did Wize. "Wize, take left. I'll go right." Zuno ordered. Zuno casted a spell causing two shadows to appear by his side. Wize made fire balls from both his hands.

"We are not your enemies." Jennifer and Grim appeared from the woods. "It has been a while shadow summoner."

Zuno retracted his shadows back to his body, "it has been a while enchantress." Zuno was glad. "It's alright guys, they're friendlies." Jennifer and Grim went to the others.

"Hello, my name is Grim, I'm the leader of the rebellion and that's Jennifer." Grim introduced. "Hi, I'm Zuno, that's Arya, Sam and Wize." Zuno replied.

Jennifer pulled Zuno out of the group and said, "She is trying to build a rebel group so the land without borders can once again be free. She believes that you may be the key in building a strong enough force to make the kingdoms get away from the land of the free." She explained.

"Alright, I guess I'm in, well for now at least." Zuno answered.

They went back to the group, "Alright, I have prepared an escort to get us back, carriages are waiting just outside the forest and a couple of mercenaries." Grim made known. "Let's go." They all followed Grim.

Arya walked beside Zuno, "Hey, can you really trust Wize? I mean he did try to kill you last time remember?" She questioned.

"Of course I remember; he changed, I haven't asked him why though, but I just know that he is not the same man as before. Something changed him, I'm planning to ask him soon enough about his reason in helping me." Zuno answered.

Zuno approached Wize, "you know I heard every single thing you and Arya said right?" Wize laughed.

"Oh, sorry about that." Zuno smiled.

"Don't worry, it's right that she doesn't really trust me. But, when Andeenan people found me and helped me get back to my oldself, I knew I did a terrible thing back during the battle. Ravenrock did give me this chemically-induced injection that made my feel sick to my stomach. That made me follow every order they gave, but the worst thing is, I lost my sense of humanity. I killed without mercy." Wize cried.

"It wasn't you, it was Ravenrock that made you do that. It's not your fault. One more question, why run away from Andeena after they helped you with everything?" Zuno was curious.

"Well, I know that all kingdoms will take people into their care and eventually use them as a weapon again. So yeah, that's why I followed you out." Wize made clear.

"I guess you're right, it's better to be off on our own. I hope we're making the right decision." Zuno ended.
