Chapter 42: The Secret Weapon

The liberation army marched with heads held high as they passed small cities and villages while heading towards another major city, Bolish City. Very few resistance were given from the Ravenrock army.  Little did they know that the next city is where Ravenrock army will make their final stand.

King Wells would join the final stand to stop the liberation army. Bolish City is the last city that stands before the capital, though there are a few small cities and villages but no soldiers were stationed there. Bolish City would be the bloodiest battle in the recorded history of Enndorcsia.

The liberation army gathered outside the city as they built their camps for the coming days, they knew the battle will last for days, maybe weeks. The army knew that King Wells and the main forces of the Ravenrock army.

"Alright fellows, this is it. The final battle is about to begin. This will determine the fate of the land. We will restore peace and bring back the free lands!" Grim motivated the rebels.

"We will give freedom back to the people of the land. We shall liberate them from tyranny and we shall uphold a peaceful realm for all eternity. May our magic protect us from evil." Prince Ande addressed his people.

"Today will be the day we avenge the death of my father, our king and the royal family also the thousands of the civilians who died during the wretched invasion. We are strong, we stand united! Let's eradicate the invaders once and for all!" Princess Selena chanted.

The whole liberation army stood in front of the city. The army stretched as far as the eye can see. 3 flags were waved high as they unite to face the enemy. Ravenrock were also as prepared as the invaders, although they are greatly outnumbered but their advanced technology made them an equally strong opponent. King Wells was seen standing on top of the gates to the city, pointing his sword up. Prince Ande, Grim and Princess Selena were on their horses in front of the liberation army. The leaders' eyes met the King's, the battle started. Ravenrock started their barrage of bombs, Andeenan mages had placed shields as always around them.

Zuno casted his shadows to cover the feliones as they charge in to disable the long range weapons. Mages also provided shields and covering fire for the feliones. Just like previous battles, the feliones successfully disabled the long range weapon. Ravenrock then sent out their landships and musketeers out to stop the liberation army's advance. Levenhood cavalries charged into the musketeers formations, scattering them all over the battlefield. Rebels also engaged in battle, most of them have muskets now but some still prefer to use their swords and shields. Arya took a few archers and went in the back line firing at fleeing musketeers.

The army's first priority was to destroy the landships then the musketeers. The battle went on for hours and eventually was at a standstill with neither of the side gaining significant ground. Both side suffered significant losses. Ravenrock army had dug trenches along the wall of the city, they camped there, picking off on coming enemies. After intense barrage from the mages onto the trenches, oddly the musketeers still dug in there, with no major losses to be seen. Levenhood cavalry were forced to retreat, they simply could not face the landships and musketeers. Selena switched their tactics and gave the cavalries muskets and bows to be able to rival against Ravenrock. King Wells stood silently from the castle of the city, overlooking the battlefield.

"Reinforce our main forces and pull back the musketeers from the frontline, order them to instead reinforce the walls. We can't face them head on, their mages are simply no match in terms of defense, we'll have to wait until they attack." King Wells ordered to a messenger.

"But sir, they have cut out our supplies from the other side of the kingdom. Shouldn't we at least try to do something about that?" The messenger replied.

"Not a problem. We have supplies for a few months in the city and when we unleash our weapon, they would flee in fear. We have nothing to worry about." King Wells reaffirmed his orders.

Night time came, the liberation army rested and so did Ravenrock. Both were still on alert, but neither side attacked.

"We should send Zuno inside to infiltrate the base and see what we are really up against. Something isn't right, they are playing very defensively. The seem to be taking things slowly." Grim suggested.

"Its only been a day of the attack, you can't possibly just see how their tactics are. Its just the same as before. They will come out with full force to destroy us soon enough." Ande said otherwise.

"I'll go check either way, just to be sure. We need to know how much supplies we need and how many reinforcements should we ask. I'll need some a stealth magic though to help me get inside, eh, never mind. I'll use the shadows to get inside." Zuno agreed to Grim's suggestion.

As they talked their strategies, suddenly an extremely loud roar was heard from the city. It was unlike any other roar, almost dragon like roar but more deep. The liberation army felt goosebumps as the roar's shockwave penetrated their skins.

"What did I tell you?" Grim smirked at Ande.

"Creatures of the other worlds that is." Jennifer whispered. "Such creatures can only be summoned by forbidden sorcery which spell book was destroyed along with the shadow summoners."

"Are you sure?" Selena was frightened.

"Yes, I was there and I saw what the shadow summoners were about to summon during the end of the Great War. I--- we managed to stop them just in time, but we saw what was  being summoned. Creature of unimaginable  power, creature of such great size. The 'Damone'. But I saw the book destroyed myself, so how could they have..." Jennifer was now confused and it made the others more frightened.

"I'll have to consult the great library back at Andeena and Eena has more knowledge about this than I do. I shall be quick." Ande said as he took his leave and teleported.

"I'll go visit the shadow summoners, I too will be back quickly." Zuno said as he went on the underworld. He had figured out how to contact the summoners.

"But what about...the plan?" Grim's voice slowly faded as she saw Ande and Zuno disappear.

"We'll have to hold them off before those two return. Lords I do hope that they don't take too long. We should now be on the defensive. Mages should focus their powers to the shields while the rest should hold them off for a while." Zyx advised.

"May our might and magic protect us from evil." Jennfier said.
