“What’s up with everyone lately?” I yell to Liam, pacing the pale carpet in his flat. “It seems that Perrie and Zayn are the only ones who aren’t fighting!”

“We aren’t fighting,” Liam notes, scrolling through his phone. “Give it a few days, Liz. Everyone’s just sick of each other,”

“Carlie hasn’t spoken to Niall in three days,” I state.

          “It’s been two days,”

“Harry and Jo-jo….” I begin but Liam cuts me off.

“She’s texting him again, don’t worry.” Liam smiles slightly at his phone, making me wonder if it’s that girl he’s liked for a bit. I shake the thought from my head and focus on the problem at hand.

“Louis and Elle?” I cry and Liam clucks his tongue. His gaze stayed on his phone while he spoke.

“Louis will have to live with the decision he made, and we all hope Elle can forgive him. I’m not especially happy with Louis at the moment anyways,”

I roll my eyes at Liam’s insensitiveness and stand in front of him, my hands on my hips. After a few moments, he doesn’t change his stance but flicks his eyes upwards.

“What?” He smirks, gaze dropping down to his phone.

“Liam, can’t we talk without your phone in front of your face?” I whine, pushing my orange hair behind my shoulder.

“Yeah, fine, whatever,” Liam mutters, making a point to drop his phone on the couch cushion.

I roll my eyes again, “Drama queen,”

“I’m doing what you wanted,” Liam retorted.

“Li, what’s up with you today?” I question softly. “You seem angry,”

“Just drop it Liz,” He starkly announced. I try not to let it show that his tone hurt me, so I just turned around and sat down on the floor.

“Liz,” Liam began softly, his sudden change in mood shocking me.

“Liam, are you PMSing? You’re having more mood swings than a woman going through menopause!” I exclaim. He rolled off the couch and onto the floor with a thud. As I spun around as fast as I could in my skinny jeans to face him.

“Sorry Lizzy. There’s this girl I really like and she keeps playing me. I want her to realize that I truly want her.” Liam hums, looking up at me with his warm brown eyes.

Before I could stop myself, I blurt, “Trust me, I know that feeling.”

“Who’s the lucky lad, Liz?” Liam questioned as he folded his arms across his chest. A smirk grows on his face as my own face heats up. Seriously? Everyone else tells me I make it obvious that I like Liam, yet he doesn’t notice!

“Just this boy,” I try to say confidently, but my voice failed and made it sound like a whisper.

“What’s his name?” Liam pressed in a teasing tone.

“Bloody hell Liam! What’s her name?” I counter back quickly.

“Carmen.” He stated proudly. Motioning me to lean down closer, Liam grabs the tips of my hair and whispers, “You know my line in Midnight Memories?”

My heart stops. I know what he’s going to tell me and it literally crushes my soul. The boys all told me Liam’s solo in Midnight Memories was about me.

          “Yeah,”

“It’s about her,” He hums with a content look as he tugs slightly on my orange tips.

“I figured Lee, I kind of figured.” I murmur. As he twirled my hair around his finger I softly announce, “I want to meet her.”

Liam looked shocked as I met his eyes, but I flashed a reassuring smile and add, “I just want to make sure she’s good enough for you. You don’t need another heart break. You don’t need-”

“Another Sophia,” He finished. With a wan expression, Liam nodded, “You don’t have to look out for me anymore Liz. We’re not in middle school anymore. I should be saying that to you! I want to meet that boy!”

Liam’s determined expression made me laugh, “I probably know him better than he knows himself!”

“I highly doubt that, Liz. I highly doubt that.” The phone resting on Liam’s chest lit up and he excitedly untangled his finger from my hair and unlocked his phone. A smile-that made me melt-graced his features and then he looked back up to me.

“She agreed to let me take her to lunch! Liz you don’t mind staying here alone for a bit right? I really want to tell you what happens!”

“I’ll be fine, Lee. I’ll stay here.” I sigh, hoping he didn’t notice my miserable expression.

“Thanks so much Liz!” Liam cried, pushing himself off the ground. “I love you!”

“I love you more,” I mumble as Liam runs his hands through his hair.

“Do I look ok?” He asks. I briefly nod and Liam calls, “Great! See ya,” as he runs out the door.

Yeah, he has that heart-warming smile on his face. But I sit as cold as stone because that smile’s not for me and it never will be.
