"Just remember..."
The sound of a horse whinnying in the distance drew both of their eyes to the windshield, the silhouetted ghost riders appearing faintly in the fog. Lydia grabbed for his hand, drew in a breath. They turned to one another for a final time.
"Remember I love you–" Stiles barely managed to get it out before the door to his jeep was flung open. Lydia's heart swelled and she reached over to try and grab his hands as they dragged him out into the swirling wind. She shrieked his name but didn't quite scream. There was a flash of lighting. And he was gone. Just. Like. That.Lydia struggled to breath, angrily wiping the tears from under her eyes. She clutched at her shirt and bit her tongue, drawing blood, anything to keep the sobs down. Suddenly, as if a wave had washed over her, she didn't understand why she felt the need to cry. She looked to the drivers seat; no one there. Then returning her gaze to the windshield she sat for a moment. Something was off.
Remember I love you.
And it all came rushing back in a fast forward timeline of the past two minutes and she felt like was couldn't breath again. "Remember." She willed herself to keep the boy in her mind because although she's forgotten Stiles for a mere minute she couldn't allow herself to lose him more than that. With a deep breath, Lydia crawled over the center console and into the drivers seat reappearing the word "remember" like a mantra until she was capable of turning on the ignition.
It wouldn't start. With a curse she tried again but to no success. So she tried again until she was no longer able to count and frustration got the better of her.
She threw her fist across the wheel. "DAMMIT STILES!" She yelled before pulling her knees to her chest. How dare he leave. How dare he tell her that and leave before they ever had the chance to talk.Because she wanted to tell him she loved him too. Lydia wanted to tell him that she'd started to love him after that first kiss the end of junior year. It had meant nothing at the time except something to save him. But progressively she noticed thoughts of him grew. During a conversation he was the person she looked to. She'd noticed a knot in her stomach when Malia had showed up and it slowly untwisted after Eichen, when Lydia had learned she'd went away.
"Remember." She only wished he was still here right now so she could tell him. Remember when you said I looked beautiful when I thought I wasn't? Remember when you told me I could tell you anything? Remember when we kissed? I meant it.
