He'd noticed her everyday, the same order, the same chair, the same time and at his favorite coffee shop. His coffee shop. It immediately became aware to him that his respected position as customer of the year was being threatened. Stiles rapidly tapped his pen against his textbook and tried in vain to continue with his studies but caught himself glancing at this mysterious girl too many times. He groaned and took a deep breath. Focus. Fo-cus. Focus. Stiles looked up and the world spun so slowly. She had strawberry blonde curls, pressed down against her face because of her over the ear headphones and occasionally she would even nod to the music. Her skin was fair and dotted with freckles. He smiled, she was studying as well. No! This girl was the enemy! She was a serious threat to his well being and he was definitely going to let her know about it.
Stiles stood with a scowl and paraded over to the other side of the shop. He entered her peripheral view causing the girl to slip the headphones around her neck and look up to him with a shy smile.
He tried his best to keep a stern face. "I don't know if you've noticed me around or not but in case you haven't figured it out I'm a regular here. A daily regular, ya know? Same time everyday. And lately you've been coming here everyday around the same time I do and I've never seen you around before but– but– are you studying Thanatos?" Stiles glanced down at her coordinated and overly highlighted notes. She grinned, beginning to blush.
"Yeah I'm just now starting at the local college. I plan to major in mythology." She admitted.
Stiles sat down at her table before beginning to speak at rapid fire. "No way, I'm a minor in mythology, majoring in criminal studies but that's a whole other story. My classes are focusing on Greece at the moment and it's all very interesting, isn't it? Thanatos is one of my favorites but you have to love a classic Aphrodite or Apollo. I personally think Hercules is overrated but that's probably just me. What are you drinking? Hot chocolate? I'll be back." He picked up her cup to study the marks on the side that revealed her order before speeding off to the front counter to order her another while She laughed into the palm of her hand.He returned not a moment later with his own notebooks and a fresh hot chocolate for his new friend. She studied the name on the cup before testing it out on her tongue. "Stiles?" He grinned. She sounded beautiful. "I'm Lydia." He'd never loved a name before but suddenly 'Lydia' was his favorite.
"I have to write my term paper on Thanatos otherwise I probably would have chosen Artemis."
Stiles raised a brow. "Seriously?" He considered going back to his usual table.
"Seriously! Artemis is a badass archer who protects children and young women from getting diseases."
"She was a glorified nun."
"She was a badass nun." Lydia grumbled. "Let me guess, you like Dionysus, god of wine?"
He smiled proudly. "Actually my favorite is Asteria, the titaness of fallen stars."
She was shocked. Sure Lydia barely knew him but she didn't think he was that insightful. He looked more like the party type. He grinned at her expression. And his coffee had never tasted so good.
