I swiveled around in one Ollie's stools, trying to make it turn 360° degrees, but it wouldn't. Ollie stared at me with a strange expression, like I was the weird one.
"Why are you trying to break my chairs, Dan?" Ollie asked. I shrugged and grinned. "Have you had your daily dose of Ginger Ale?" he asked. I rolled my eyes and tapped an off-beat rhythm on the counter. "Why are you so happy tonight, Cinderella?" I grinned.
"Tonight, the prince I are going on a movie date. I wonder where my glass slippers are?" I said playfully. Ollie laughed and flicked my forehead.
"Be careful around that man. He may be your boyfriend, but he's also your coworker. You know that dating one of your coworkers is taboo." I gave him an annoyed look.
"Which is why girls do it. They love the rush they get when you sneak out in the middle of the night with the bad boy boy waiting outside of you house with a motorcycle and a no helmet..." I said dreamily. Ollie raised an eyebrow at me.
"Please tell me you wear the other kind of helmet." Ollie cried out. I averted my eyes and whistled at who-knows-where. Ollie groaned and leaned over the counter. "What would your parents say?" he asked, which struck a nerve. I plugged my ears as my eyes widened.
"Ah! I don't want to hear it! Especially from someone I care about!" I screamed. Ollie put his hands up in surrender and turned back to cleaning the cups. I gave him a toothy grin when I heard the door to the body art department open. I turned my head, expecting to see my flawless prince, but what I got was nowhere near as flawless... or a prince.
I grimaced when I saw Trinity walk out with a smirk on her face. She caught my gaze and gave me a falsetto smile.
"Why, hello Dannie. What are you doing here on this fine evening?" she asked. I balled up my fist and walked up to her. Even with those 200 inch high heels I was still an inch taller than her.
"Why don't you tell me what the hell you're doing here?" I snapped. Trinity pouted and pushed me back a few inches.
"Oh, I was just... visiting someone. What was his name again? Hmm.... was it, Nick?" Trinity snickered. I sucked in my breath, ready to throw a punch. How does she even know his name? This girl takes the stalker title to a whole other level.
"How the hell do you even know where I work?!" I screamed. Trinity smirked and flipped her blonde curls.
"I have my connections. By the way, I just adore his eyes..." Trinity slithered as chills went down my back and made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. My mouth went dry and my instincts took over.
I ran my hand across Trinity's face--her bronzer was painted on my palm. I heard Ollie clear his throat behind me.
"If you ladies are going to fight, take it outside please." he asked. I glared at him, giving him a who's side are you on?! look. Then, I turned back to Trinity and clenched my jaw.
"I don't want to see your slutty ass here ever again, do you hear me?" I threatened. Trinity gave me a last smirk before she made her way up the stairs.
"Trust me, Dannie. This won't be the last time you'll see this slutty ass--" Trinity said. I gulped and lowered my gaze. "because you are now on my radar, and I'm coming for you." Trinity said. Then she disappeared up the stairs, leaving a sour taste in my mouth.
I turned to Ollie with a desperate expression. He cocked his head towards the door as I slipped through, meeting my eyes with Andy, who was organizing empty ink bottles. My heart was beating fast, making me choke on the sudden adrenaline. I swallowed hard, trying to find my words, but clearly didn't need to. Andy knew exactly what I was going to say. He jabbed a thumb towards Nick's office as I have him a genuine smile and knocked on his office door. He stood in the middle of the room, observing one of his designs. I sighed in relief and knocked again. Nick turned around, his eyes steel, but still gorgeous.
"Hey..." I barely uttered. Nick smiled and made is way over to me.
"Hi. What are you doing back here?" He asked. I couldn't help but worry. I wanted to say, but I kept my lips sealed.
"I just... was checking on you." I made it safely to home plate. Nick caressed my face and kissed my forehead.
"I'm sorry I made you wait. I'll just grab my jacket and we'll go. Any recommendations?" he asked, pulling his leather jacket over his board shoulders.
"No, I..... I can deal with anything." I said. Nick glanced at me with worry in his eyes.
"Are you okay? You're stuttering." he spoke. I gulped and nodded slowly.
"Yeah, I'm fine..." I mumbled. Nick hugged me tightly and rubbed his nose against mine.
"No, you're not. I love you too much to know that when you say you're fine, you really aren't... or maybe I'm watching too much Girl Code these days..." Nick pondered. I giggled, which put a smile on his face. I looked into his eyes as a smile threatened to surface. "Now are you going to tell me what's on your mind or do I have go force it out of you?" he threatened. I pretended to gasp dramatically and softly slapped his pecs.
"Are you threatening me, Nick?" I squealed. Nick raised his eyebrows and pulled me in for an kiss, but he bit my lip.
"Unfortunately, as much as I love you, you're not getting any special treatment until you spill." Nick said. I pouted and gave him the original puppy dog eyes.
"C'mon~! You can't force a girl to spill her beans, can you?" I asked, but I really wanted to know what happened. What if Trinity really did move in on Nick? What happened when I wasn't there? All of these jealousy thoughts filled my head, which made me sick. It made me feel like one of those girlfriends that were way too clingy. But if I wanted to contain a long lasting relationship with this god standing in front of me, I couldn't let secrets come into our way.
"Alright... I'll speak up." I said. Nick turned to me. He was clearly surprised with my answer. I took a deep breath. "IwanttoknowwhathappenedwhenTrinitycameinhereMostlybecauseIdontwanttolooklikeatotalbitchforbitchingatyoulikethatbutIcanthelpitbecauseIloveyousomuchIcantletanythinggetinourwayifImgoingtobewithyouforalongtime." I said in one quick breath. Nick stared at me, clearly taken back. "Sorry."
"No, it's okay... that was just... sudden? I don't know if that the right word, but..." Nick said. He looked at me with his crystal blue eyes, which melted me. "I'm glad you told me. And who's Trinity?" he asked. I laughed and wrapped my arms around his neck.
"No one that matters." I said placing my lips onto his, closing the gap.
Relief filled my stomach--or was it relief? I mean I sure felt something in my gut, and it wasn't exactly the good feeling I expected.
I knelt in front if the toilet, gagging like there wad no tomorrow. I felt my stomach tighten and my body shuddered. Nope, surely not relief and definitely not something I ate. I heard a knock at the door and I glanced over.
"Are you okay, babe?" Nick asked. I smiled warmly and sniffed.
"I'm fine. Its just something I ate." I lied. I didn't like the feeling I got when I lied to Nick, but this time, I couldn't tell him the truth. Mostly because I didn't know the truth. Although I said that I was fine, I could still see the shadows of Nick's feet under the door. I smiled. "I'm fine. You don't have to worry." I said. After a few heartbeats, Nick left which left me with that sickening feeling again.
No, definitely not relief.
