I was sitting down in my pre-calculus class, twirling my pencil around and around my finger bored out of my mind. There wasn't any reason to pay attention, since I had already done my homework the day before, but even if I did pay attention, my focus would immediately turn towards Jay, who sat like, right in front of me.
It's already been almost a week since Jay and I became friends and I still haven't gotten used to him being in any of my classes. I thought. Then, Jay's brown eyes drifted behind to me. I look away frantically bad tried to focus on something else, but it was all futile. I heard Jay laugh and try to cover it up. I glared at him in a fun way, but he just smiled at me.
"Meet me after school across the street. I want to bring you somewhere." Jay whispered. I bit my lip and ran my finger through my black hair.
"Sure."
I walked outside, tying up my hair and revealed a line of birds flying across my neck.
"Hey," Jay called out. I turned and saw him pushing off the brick wall of the school. I smiled at him as he took my hand into his; enveloping my tattooed hands into his. "Sorry, I couldn't wait to see you." He said rubbing his thumb along my index finger, right where my tattoo was. I stared at him and frowned. My heart stung.
I see now... he doesn't like me, but my tats. Ugh, how could I not notice? I scoffed at myself and yanked ny hand away, which surprised Jay.
"What's wrong?" He asked worried.
"I'm sorry, but I can't--"
"Can't what? I can't hold your hand?" Jay asked sorrowfully. I bit my lip in guilt.
"No! That's not what I meant! I meant that, you probably don't want to hold my hands. They're sweaty and you'll probably get infected by my "markings"." I said frantically.
Jay stared at me puzzled. Then, he took my hands again and kissed my knuckles.
"Did someone call these markings? Well, they're the worst because these are the prettiest markings in the world..." Jay said running his hand along my arm. I blushed and looked away embarrassed.
"God, why are you so damn hot?" I muttered, but I guess he heard me because he smirked.
"Why, thank you. I think you're pretty hot too." Jay whispered into my ear. I bit my lip and intertwined our hands. He smiled and bit my ear.
"Aren't you afraid people are going to look at us weird?"
"Why would I? They're just jealous."
"What about Ash?"
"What about her? Not to be mean, but she's kind of..."
"Not your type?" I asked hopefully.
"I dunno, not really. I mean, she's a great friend. One of my best friends. But I don't have much in common with her."
"And I do?"
"Yeah. I like you and your style. Hey, why don't you come with me somewhere? I want to take you to a hang out I know." Jay said pulling me to his car and driving off to who-knows-where.
[Ashlynn's PoV]
"Hey, have you seen Dannie?" I asked a group of people. They turned around and looked at me puzzled.
"Dannie? Who's that?"
"D-Did I say Dannie? Oh god, silly me! I mean, Tattoo Girl. Have you seen her?" I corrected corrected herself, giving off a totally fake smile.
"Oh yeah. Tat Girl left with Lockser. They make a perfect couple, seriously."
"Do you know where to?"
"Nah, why do you care? Didn't you say you only hung out with her because you felt sorry?"
"I am! Its just...." I muttered as the group of people waved the comment away.
"Whatever. Good luck and be careful, Ashlynn. You'll get marked." They said walking away. Ashlynn frowned and sighed frustrated.
"I did say that, but..."
[Dannie's PoV]
"Where are we going? You're not going to push me off a cliff, are you?" I asked. Jay laughed, but kept his hands cupped over my eyes.
"Don't worry, I won't. There's like, a bonfire place me and my friends used to go in our sophomore year." When I heard that, my heart stopped along with my feet.
"... Did you bring your ex-girlfriends here too?" I asked, but immediately regretted it. Ugh, why the hell did I say that? Shit.
"What are you talking about, Dan? I would never do that."
"You might, but you would never tell me," I said turning around and grabbing Jay by the shoulder. I glared at him with my emerald green eyes. "Jay, I'm your best friend. You can tell me anything. ANYTHING. And from now on, I want you to be honest with me. No secrets, or obstacles will stand in our way. Do you understand me?" I demanded. Jay stared at me with wide eyes and from there I knew I had messed up. I jerked my hands away and almost screamed. "Oh my god, I am so sorry. I didn't mean to lash out at you like tha--"
"There is one obstacle standing in our way." Jay said pulling my arm and turning me around.
"Wha--?!" I declared, but I was cut off when Jay pressed his lips onto mine. A kiss. The worst kiss. The best kiss. The kiss that started everything. A troubled kiss.
