Jordyn's POV

"Jared! Let me out!" my mother cries rang through my ears. "Please". I heard the basement door open and my mom stumble out. I could just picture her on the floor, weak at my fathers knees. Her sobs growing louder and more intense.
I cried, pulling my knees to my chest as i sat in the darkest corner of my room. I longed to help her, but even if I tried, worse would be done to me. The painful memories all came flooding back to me.
Him whipping my bare back with his think leather belt, my mom next.

I balled my hair in my fist and let out a scream. My head was pounding as a single tear slip down my cold cheek. Pain.
I hated the feeling so weak. Like there was nothing I could do.

Silence filled the air. Everything was totally silent. Why? I though of all the possibilities and more tears streamed down my face and i quickly wiped them away. My hands shook and my heart started thumping. I couldn't breathe. I was suffocating.
Quickly, i reached under my mattress and pulled the tablets out, shoving an unknown number down my throat.

Taking a deep breath, i crawled to my door, trying to regain my ability to walk. My hands shook as i reached the door nob and i turned it, tip-toeing downstairs. But when i got to the bottom of the stairs, i stood frozen. My legs suddenly went numb and i felt to the ground, no longer holding back the screams and the tears i wouldn't, couldn't, let out. My visions was blurry and my breaths were getting heavier.

I sat at the front door for about 3 hours. Thinking.
Thinking of all the happy times we had. When my parents actually loved each other and cared.
I thought about about all those times my father stuck up for her, but now he was the reason she broke down. Signing and taking a deep breath, i stood up and decided i should call someone.

"911, what's your emergency". Her voice was calm and quiet, guess she had to be. She had to be strong for those who couldn't.
"My um. My p-parents are, uh, d-dead". My voice shook.
"Okay- ma'am. What's your address?"

It took me a minute to even remember. "2404 Chestnut".

"Police are on their way now".

I could hear the sirens getting closer. What were they gonna do, they were already dead.
I looked up at my mother, her lifeless body hanging from the ceiling fan and my father lay on the ground, blood gushing out of his slit throat; the knife across the room. It probably flew over there when he fell the the ground.

Suddenly there were three big bangs on the door and i stood up, trying to look okay.
A large man stood in the doorway with a small, fragile woman beside him. Looking behind them, I could see the ambulance patiently waiting there to carry my parents away. It's okay though. They weren't really parents to me anyway. I moved aside and let the strangers into my house.

"So, Jordyn. Since you are 19 we can't put you in to the system. Usually we could out you in a half way house but since your parents owned this house, it's yours now. Also they paid off the jeep so you get to keep it, but not the mustang. The state will be taking that". I nodded my, pretending to listen. I just hated how she talked about my parents in past tense. Like they weren't alive just this morning.

As she made her way to the door, i stood up to walk her out.
"Bye". She waved and strutted down the sidewalk, her red curls bouncing with every step she took. But she came to a stop. She turned around.
I slapped my forehead. What the hell does she want now.
She reached into her bag and pulled out a little key and a file.
"This key is to a storage unit your mother owned, and this file is just your fathers bank statements". Great. I slammed the door in her face and watched her stumble back to her car.

I sign, wondering what to do. I never really had friends; no one to talk or open up to.
I looked down at the key. What's in the storage unit. Shirley i would have known about it. What secret was she keeping from me, my father.
I quickly stood up and made my way out to the car.

The engine roared and the radio blared. I knew exactly were i was headed. We only have 1 storage unit in town.

I opened the cold, metal handle of the big glass door. Immediately i felt the cool air against my skin as i stepped inside.
I walked up to the counter expecting someone to be there, but no one was. Glancing around I noticed papers spread everywhere and other office things where ever i look.

"Sorry to keep you waiting". I was startled by a mans voice. I looked up and saw a tall, skinny, dirty blonde guy. His smile was big and genuine but my face remained still. "My name is Jack Johnson. Can I help you with anything". Well obviously. I not here to just stand and look at your face.
I kept quiet and handed over the tiny, silver key.
"Ahh. E36. Haven't opened this one in a while. Sam! Gilinsky! Nate! Get out here". After he shouted out random names, three boys walked over of no fucking where.
One with dyed blonde heair and tattoos, another tall with dark hair and a sharp jaw line. His eyes lowered. The last one was big with a man bun and many tattoos. His eyes narrowed and focused on me. Quickly looking away, i could feel him eyes on me, sending shivers down my spine.

"Yo. I need one of y'all to take her to E36". They all exchanged glances at each other, as if they were arguing with their eyes.
"Fine. Shit. I'll take her". The dude with the man bun walked off and o followed closely behind.
His husky voice was forever stuck in my mind.

We walked in silence until we came to a big, metal door. Bending down, i tried to lift it but it wouldn't budge.
"Need help?" he smirked bending down. "Im Nate by the way". The mental door squeaked as he opened it and i stepped inside.
"Im Jordyn". He nodded and stepped back, pulling a joint out of his back pocket. I giggled and smiled at him.
"Ha. Your cute. You should smile more". I ignored his ignorant words and searched through all the boxes.

They were mainly just baby pictures and old cloths no one would ever be able to fit.
After a couple minutes of searching, i found a thick pink book.

Jordyn's Baby Book

I opened the book and looked through all the pictures.
I miss it.
I miss being happy.

"So, uh. Are you done yet?" i looked back at Nate who was putting his blunt out on they concrete floor.
"Wait. Just a few more minutes". He rolled his eyes and shoved his hands deep in his pockets.

I looked through, flipping the pages even more slowly. But one caught my eye. Glancing at it mire carefully i realized why my mother kept this secret.
I grabbed the baby book, nostrils flaring and my face turning red.
"Hey were are you going?" Nate stormed after me and grabbed my arm. I yanked away from his grip suddenly becoming light headed.

As i kept walking, i felt weaker and weaker. My heads trembled and my legs were ready to give up. My visions blurred.

And it all went black.
