It's been about a month since Vylad died. In fact, Opal was due soon. But that wasn't what was on Zane's mind.
He breathed heavily, twisting the ring on his finger. He was relaxing on the couch, watching Travis play with Sonia on a blanket they had thrown across the floor. Though he wouldn't exactly call it relaxing. He wasn't relaxed in the slightest. Though it warmed his heart to watch the two people he loved most goof around. Travis would hand Sonia a toy link, one of those circles with fun designs which connects with the other circles, and she'd just shove it in her mouth. Travis would laugh and ruffle the tufts of white hair she had grown. Sonia, prizing her father's reaction, would do the same thing, hoping for a similar response. Zane found it amusing. But he had other things on his mind as well. Travis could tell.
Travis had been worried about Zane, Zane sensed it. Travis has been babying him, asking what's wrong occasionally, trying to make sure Zane gets sleep. Travis suggested taking Zane to a doctor, but Zane had politely reclined. He knew exactly what was wrong with him and frankly, was scared to death. How would Travis take it?
"Hello? Earth to Zane..."
Zane blinked and found himself staring into familiar emerald green eyes, that looked very concerned. Zane blinked again a few times, everything coming into focus. "Hmm..?"
Travis frowned slightly, causing Zane to wince. He knew how concerned Travis was, he was just afraid that by revealing what's been troubling him he'd only worsen their situation. "I was just suggesting we put Sonia down for a nap, she seems tired." Travis said slowly, as if Zane needed to process every word. It hurt Zane, but he knew that Travis was only trying to help. "Oh...alright..."
Travis sighed and picked up Sonia, who looked at Travis in confusion. "Naptime." Travis said in his babying voice.
"Nununu nappy! Papi nununu!" Sonia gugrled angrily, then yawned. Travis chuckled. "Yes, it's time for nap."
He took Sonia upstairs, and Zane could hear her screaming in protest. Finally she began to settle down after forever and Travis came back downstairs. He sat on the couch opposite of Zane. "Alright Ro'Meave, something's up and you're telling me right now." Travis said sternly, and Zane stared at him silently. Travis sighed. "If you're sick, we can take you to the doc-"
"No."
"Then what's up with you?" Travis exhaled deeply. "You aren't being the Zane I fell in love with as of late."
Ouch. That hurt. Zane sighed and looked down. "I don't wanna tell you." Travis rolled his eyes. "Well, you're telling me whether you want to or not." Travis suddenly tackled Zane, sitting on his stomach. Which brought Zane to hysterics. "GET OFF! GET OFF YOU MIGHT HURT THE B-" He then cut himself off, eye widening.
Travis climbed off, eyes round. "Zane calm down! I'm sorry!" He paused. "What do you mean you might hurt the....?"
Oh crap. Zane pursed his lip. "Um..."
Conveniently, the phone rang. "Thank Irene!" Zane said aloud, jumping for the phone.
"Dante?....Mhm..."
Travis stared at Zane angrily. He was trying to figure out what was going on. Zane had been acting so distance since...Travis's eyes widened. It all began to piece together in his head. "Don't tell me...you're..."
Zane hung off the phone. "Travis, we'll talk about this later."
"What?! Zane, we need to talk about this now! If you really are-"
"Travis, shut up!! Opal's coming!"
