The whole way back to our home I couldn't stop thinking about Enjolras. I knew my thinking of him was foolish, we had just met and I knew nothing about him. I tried to shove him from my mind and tried to focus on what my father was saying to me.

"You shouldn't have just ran in there like that Marie!" He lectured me. "You are a young lady who needs to learn her place! You're lucky I don't send you to a convent until a proper husband is found for you!"

"I couldn't just let Francis hurt that little boy!" I defended myself as he opened the door to our home and we went inside. "He was just a child!"

"A criminal is a criminal!" He snapped as I took of my scarf and placed it on the mahogany table by the door. "You need to get that through your head!"

"And a child is a child!" I countered as I made my way down the hall and into the sitting room with him right behind me. I just wanted to realize the truth behind my words for once. He had always followed the law but not once had he looked back to see the damage left behind in his footsteps.

"I have to go to work." He frowned at me. "Promise me that you'll stay inside today, I don't want you to get hurt."

"I promise." I sighed as he kissed my forehead and headed back out the door without another word. Leaving me with my thoughts.

***~Enjolras' POV~***

As Courfeyrac and I walked with Gavroche I found myself thinking of Marie. No one had stepped in to help Gavroche, not even those that we'd known for years, but then she appeared and ran to save him. Her bright blue eyes had been filled with determination as she stood up to the man but I knew that if he had wanted to he could have easily hurt her too. She didn't just stop there though, she'd given us ten francs so we could eat!

"What's wrong Enjolras?" Gavroche asked me with a furrowed brow.

"Nothing," I lied as we turned onto our street and waved at our friends as we passed them.

"You filthy liar!" Courfeyrac called me out as he grabbed a beer from one of the other guys and took a swig of it. "You've been daydreaming ever since that damsel left!"

"That's not true!" I denied the truth behind his words, praying he'd let it go. "Why would I be thinking about some posh girl?"

"She was nice!" Gavroche defended her with a frown.

"She's still one of them." Courfeyrac shook his head. I was surprised that he was saying this about her after she'd just saved Gavroche. I stayed quiet though we didn't need a riff between us not with the people of Paris starting to grow restless.

"Enjolras!" I looked up to see our friend Marius looking down at us from a window.

"Hello there Marius!" I waved to him as he disappeared back inside the window and I knew he was hurrying down to us.

"So what will we do with the ten francs she gave you?" Courfeyrac asked with a grin as Marius came outside and ran over to our side.

"Who gave you ten francs?" Marius raised a brow at us.

"The lady who saved me!" Gavroche informed him and I could see his eyes widen. Before anyone could say anything though I spotted her familiar blue eyes watching us from the end of the street and we all looked at her.
