Chapter Twenty
Jung Soel Chan
(Unedited)
The movie played in front of us and I was more consicious of Maya sitting next to me then the movie itself. I would glance at her once in a while to see her reaction. She sat there, completely comfortable, while I was nervous as hell. I don’t even know why I was being so nervous, I mean we’re not even on a date! It’s just a simple friends outing but then again I didn’t see Na Na or James coming and it’s just the two of us now, does that meant that we were on a date? Did it mean that we came out here as a couple.
I wanted to hold her now, feel her soft skin against mine, and hold her hands which I knew fit perfectly in mine. My heart started to race, making me shudder from my own feelings. I had never been this head over heels for a girl, not to mention who is nothing special but a normal girl, heck she ain’t even a model but then why I think she’s the most beautiful girl I have set my eyes on? How did I end up falling for her?
I watched her as she smiled or laughed at the movie, her laugh making my heart alive at the same. Suddenly she twisted her head towards me and for a second we locked eyes. I have no idea what it was but it felt all different, her looking at me and me at her. We were practically lost in each other’s eyes.
Still an unknown nagging stayed at the back of my head, something that I wanted to ask her for so long. I was still uncertain about her feelings and that was making me go crazy. I wanted to know as bad as it was, what she felt for me or Charlie.
I’m not a bit suspicious about this movie thing because I knew for a fact that it was a date. Maya and Charlie were on a date but then when I appeared in front of her, she hugged me. Maybe because she was scared? But what about not letting go of my hand all the time? What about now? When we still looked into each other’s eyes, forgetting the movie, people around us or the theater itself. There were only two of us and even in the dark I can clearly see her experssion, that indicated that she was as lost in my eyes as I was in hers.
A loud bang from the movie brought us back to reality as we both jumped at the noise. I breathed out loudly and she did the same. We shifted in our seats awkwardly but something between us was there. There was something between us and maybe right now I’m not clear about what it is, but there is certainly something. I watched the movie without knowing what the plot was, I was just staring at the moving pictures in front of me.
I traced back my eyes at Maya and knew she was not focusing on the movie, her eyes looked distant and a blush coated her cheeks. What was she thinking about? It got me curious more than ever. I have to ask her, what it all meant for her, for us!
The movie ended, and the credits rolled on the screen. I got up slowly and stretched my muscles, sitting for two and a half hour was tiring. I waited for Maya to get up but she seemed to be somewhere else, her eyes still fixed on the screen. I snapped my fingers in front of her and she jumped, looking like she had been caught doing something bad. I chuckled at her expression.
“What are you thinking?” I asked her, she flipped her head at the other side, not meeting my eyes.
“I was just so into the movie, I was looking at the credits.” She answered me immediately, yet not facing me directly.
“Okay, maybe you want to leave now? I’m tired.” I said, making a tired face.
“Ah, yes.” She picked up her purse and shouldered it, walking in front me I watched her from behind.
We stood at the theater’s door and as I pushed it open I caught a glimpse of what was happening outside, instinct kicked in and I caught Maya’s arm, dragging her inside again. She looked startled with my sudden reaction but soon her expression changed with a confuse look.
