Chapter twenty-two

(Unedited)
Reporters filled the school enterance and I knew they were all here because of me and Maya. How I tried my best to hide her from these pawn of these reporters, yet we were both caught in it. I was shifting in my car, non-stop, because I was nervous. I couldn’t even get Maya on her phone and I didn’t see her walking to school. I hope she stayed home and didn’t come out. Her parents must have saw the newspaper by now, maybe they stopped her.
I noticed something weird going outside, although there were reporters everywhere, none gave a glance towards my car. They were all circled around and something was going on, that I couldn’t see. I didn’t risk rolling down my window but I tried to see what was going on.
And now they won’t even look at me? I mean, c’mon I am a freaken rockstar here. A little attention should be here!
Suddenly Ajjashi came inside the car, opening the front drivers door. He was breathing heavily and that made me feel that something was definitely wrong.
“Sir, the girl.” He started.
I knew what girl he was talking about, the instinct kicked in and I pulled myself out of the car. Opening the door at full speed and almost tripping out. I ran towards the field of reporters and what they were doing. Maya!
She lay on the ground as I saw her from enough distant.
“Hey!” I shouted. “Get a side!”
The reporters blocked my path but hearing my voice was worse. They all left her on the ground, nobody was helping her and they all came running towards me. Camera flashing, questions asked. All asking how i knew her. Things were in absoulte mess. I reached out my arms to make my way towards her but they all had a firm hold to where they were standing. All were circled around me and the only thought of me was to get Maya out of this place.
Nothing int he world mattered but her. She still lay there on the ground and I felt my heart being ripped out of my chest.
“Somebody help her!” I screamed.
I don’t know why she was on the ground. I just wanted her to be safe, when did all this started.
Suddenly Ajjashi came to my aid, and pushed the reporters out of the way. Still they were not budging but he made is possible to move among them. My eyes still not left Maya’s body, as Ajjashi dragged me towards the school building.
“No, Maya!” I shouted again, and dragged myself towards her.
Why was no one helping her!
Suddenly Charlie came out and picked up Maya. My breath was caught in my lungs but at that moment I was so greatful that he came to her aid. I don’t care if he likes Maya or not, as long as he is there to help her, I am okay with it.
He took her in his arms and for a moment, his eyes met mine. A regret was in them but he shook them away. Taking her inside of school. Everything around me was blurred now. This all made sense now. Maya can never be with me. She will always be left at side and even if I want to be with her, I can’t. Because I can’t reach out to her. I can have anything in this world but not her. Because I can’t hold her and even if I could, she’d be hurt and played with.
My heart broke into million pieces at that moment, when I realised how I never can help Maya even if I wanted to. She can never be safe with me and I b=can never protect her either. We were not meant to be together.
--
I waited outside the nurse room, as Maya stayed inside, resting. I wanted to go in and see her face, I wanted to hold her in my arms but I was afraid I might hurt her more. I can’t imagine how I’m suppose to distant myself from her. But then again, I’m being selfish. Like always. Shouldn’t I change myself for her? Maybe Charlie is better for her. He can always be there for her and he can reach out to her, protect her.
