Chapter Nine
Maya
Oh My Merciful God!
Where did all the courage come from?
I'm pacing up and down in front of auditorium's door, waiting for Soel Chan. It's 5:30 and he's still not here.
But that's not the reason for me to be scared. I pulled a little stunt today. Okay, maybe a big one. I made Soel Chan to be my showcase partner.
I did it all just to give him a taste of his own medicine. He dispises me way too much and I thought that if I just make him suffer like this, he'll understand.
Then he called me and was way too rude. I was actually planning to back off on my own if he hadn't been so bossy and annoying. I need to teach him a lesson. Long time ago, I thought I could be friends with him, but that's going to change. I'm going to be the worst enemy he can imagine me to be.
For starters, I have no idea what to do about it. I mean, I'm just fighting off the bad guy, am I not? Even when I was telling him that I have the upperhand, I was shaking so badly. I hope he didn't notice that.
And I remember telling him to be at 5 sharp! Where the hell is he? It's freezing outside, and getting dark too. I take one more look at the road and get inside the auditorium.
It's a little better over here but still cold. I start to pace again. It's good he's not here, in a way. I mean we could have started fighting or worse. Then eventually he will be gone saying he doesn't want to be my partner or donot want to practice with me either.
Thud!
The door opens, interuppting my thoughts and I see someone standing in the way. A boy. Soel Chan? I stand up and I see Charlie walking up to me.
"Hey," He says.
"Hi," I reply him back. "What are you doing here?"
"I came to practice but I think this place is already occupied." He smiles.
"No, not really." I say as a matter of fact-ly. "Soel Chan's not here. Even when I told him to be here at 5. He's ignoring me, you know."
"Ha! You think he'll just give up and come like this. You know it would have been more weird if he did show up. Don't worry about him, he'll come around." Charlie smiles.
Charlie is still in his school uniform. He looks so perfect in it. Plus, he's also the class president. He's the brightest kid in school, a total opposite personality from Soel Chan. Most importantly, he isn't afraid of Soel Chan like others are. Though I've heard that students prefer Charlie over Soel Chan because he's such a sweet heart and a gentle soul.
I smile as I thought about him as a gentle soul. He's nice.
"What are you smiling about?" He asks and I look up, startled. I forgot for a minute that he is here.
"Nothing!" I say, instantly. "So, tell me. Why are you so nice to me?"
"You're a lady, and ladies are suppose to be treated with respect." He bows a little. So adorable!
"You're a real gentleman." I say, and blush a little. Good thing its a little dark in here so he can't make out my red cheeks.
"I get that a lot." He smiles and show off his perfect set of teeth. "Okay, so I asked you to stand against Soel Chan, not with him. Why did you pair him up with you?"
"Well, I just thought maybe if he performs with some beggar like me, his self esteem would get hurt and my revenge will be completed."
"That's new. He's not gonna perform. You'll lose your revenge and grade in the music class."
