Chapter Twenty-Four
Seol Chan
Unedited
I left before Maya could talk to me, I ran out of auditorium as fast as I could. Avoiding her has not being easy lately. I don’t want to bully her either considering everyone thinks we are on good terms and this can bring out another headline for tomorrow’s newspaper. Though I did manage to shut her out, and that haven’t been easy either.
Everytime I look into her eyes, I get this sudden feeling that nothing is around us and it’s just me and her. That I get so lost in them, that all that happened before clears out of my head. Then I just need a moment to struck the reality and I’m back to my ignoring mission.
Although, I have been ignoring her, I haven’t let her go out of my site. For her safety and her goodwill, I need to check upon her everytime. But then today, I failed. Reaching outside, I walked swiftly towards my car, leaving a grave distance between me and Maya. As I sat inside my car, I told Ajjashi to driver straight home. I was still in the way when Kim Na Na called.
“Hello?” I answered.
“Oh, Soel Chan, I have to help my mom today with her work. Do you think you can drop Maya to her home?”
“She’s not with you?” I asked her, as my voice got a little high.
“No! I knew she wouldn’t tell you that I wasn’t gonna drop her off. I should have called sooner.”
“You think! I’m hanging up!” I said in hurried. “Ajjashi, go back to school, now!”
He took a turn and we were on our way to school in three minutes. As soon as the car reached school, I jumped out of it and looked around for Maya. Tracing back my footsteps from auditorium. I called out to her but no answer came. I figured she wasn’t in school anymore, going to back to car once more.
“Should we go home now?” He asked.
“Maybe she reached home by now.” I said, lightly.
“Who did, sir?”
“Ah, nevermind. Ajjashi go to Maya’s place and see no one follows us!”
“Dey!” He replied.

Soon we were waiting outside Maya’s home. I just couldn’t let myself go out and ask her parents if she was home. Reason for that was I thought they would shut the door at my face, since I brought so many problems to her. And those problems were the headlines in the country, literally!
Finally, I collected my strength and got of the car. Sighingly loudly, I stuffed my hands in my pockets. Let’s get it over with it. I walked slowly towards the front door. Just as I reached the house, a car stopped in front of it. I looked back to see it was Charlie’s car and coming out of it was Maya. She stood in front of me, holding the door and eyes fixed at me.
I gulped.
Slowly, she bent down and said something to Charlie, who was inside the car, looking at me too. With a silent nod, she closed the door and we both saw the car reversing back and leaving us, alone. She turned back to face me and I stood there thinking she is safe. Because this wasn’t the time to get jealous, it was the time to see if she’s okay!
Slowly she started walking towards me and I did too. We stopped and looked at each other for a while. Then she cut down the silence between us.
“What are you doing here?” She said, lightly.
“Why didn’t you tell me that Na Na wasn’t going to drop you off today?” I asked her back.
“I didn’t think it was important.” She frowned.
