I woke up early. Something seemed wrong but I couldn't tell what it was. Sitting upright I scanned the room. Everything was the same. Must have been a bad dream.
But it had seemed so real...
I swung my legs out of bed and pulled the sheets off. I looked at the mirror in front of me and ran my finger along a crack in the corner. As I did I was hit with a sudden memory...
"Why didnt you tell me! I hate you!" I yelled as I stormed into my bedroom. I could here my mother downstairs crying. I didn't care. She had lied to me for years. Everything I knew was a lie. They weren't my parents and had kept the secret from me for much longer than they should of.
I was adopted.
It hadnt set in yet. They had found me when I was 5 after my real parents abandoned me. They should have told me ages ago but waited until I was 13 to tell me.
I stomped over to my bedside table and picked up a photo of me and my parents. Wait no. Agatha and Terry. I wouldn't call them mum and dad again. At the bottom of the frame it read
From your loving parents
Scowling I launched the frame across the room and it struck the mirror cracking it. I dropped to the floor and cried in a ball...
Frowning I pulled my hand back. My phone buzzed and I went to my bedside table to check it. Picking up the phone I saw a strange message
Wake up! Saph! Wake up!
I frowned. Wake up? What does that mean. There was no caller ID and I put the phone down again. It rang and I groaned. I picked up the phone again and held it to my ear. The voices sounded funny but I could make out what they were saying.
"What did you do to her?"
"Nothing! I just came in and she was like this!"
"Dont touch her! I'll get the fairies"
"Saph. Come on. Please wake up"
I hung up and put the phone down. What the hell was going on? I looked at my clock.
6:23
My alarm was going off soon anyway so I wrapped my dressing gown around me and went downstairs. I walked into the kitchen and opened the fridge. It was stocked full of my favourite foods but I wasnt very hungry so I pulled out the milk carton and went to make myself some cereal.
As I took a spoonfull I remembered that someone in the call had said something about fairies. I shrugged. Probably a wrong number. But they seemed worried about someone. Hope she's ok. Strange we had the same name though... Frowning I stared at my cereal. No longer hungry I poured my cereal into the sink and washed the bowl.
I picked up my laptop from the counter and hopped up so I was sitting on the side board. I logged in and looked up to see my brother Mason come in. He was Agatha and Terry's real son. I never did call them mum and dad again.
"Hey" I said as I turned my eyes back to the computer.
"Hey" he grumbled "You were talking in your sleep last night"
"I was? What was I saying?" I never turned my eyes from the screen. I heard him crunch into an apple.
"Kept going on about shadows and a boy called Jake. Something about a school and Captain Hook. There were more names as well. Lexi, Tristan and Ethan I think" he said as he took another bite.
