I ran down the stairs and stopped at the doors. I could hear the chatter from the other side and nerves were creeping up on me. I placed my hand on the door to push it open but stood there for a second staring at it.
A warm hand covered mine and pushed the door open. I looked up and saw Jake smiling at me as he snaked an arm around my waist. "Don't be nervous. I've got you" he whispered as he slipped his arm from my waist and took my hand.
The doors opened fully and we stepped inside. Jake lead me over to the ballroom doors and opened then for me.
In front of us was a sea of colours. Many girls were in long ballgowns in pastel colours. Most boys wore suits whilst some wore outfits I had only ever seen in fairytales.
I wanted to walk but my feet were rooted to the ground. Jake squeezed my hand reassuringly and I felt my body relax. As we walked into the main group the music picked up with a slow song. I scanned the room for the band and finally saw floating instruments playing. I gasped and Jake chuckled as he saw what I was looking at. "Care to dance?" He asked me.
I looked at him worried. "But I dont know how to" I whispered. Many couples were already dancing gracefully and I bit my lip nervously.
"Truth is. Neither do I but I think it looks easy enough" he whispered. I giggled and nodded as he pulled me onto the dance floor. He took my hand and wrapped and arm around my waist pulling me close. I let out a small scream in surprise and somehow managed to kick his shin. His eyes widened slightly but he soon relaxed. "Sorry" I whispered.
He laughed. Looking around he quickly spun me and I stumbled. I fell into his chest and he fell back slightly. "Maybe we should leave dancing to the professionals" he said laughing as he rubbed his chest. I laughed and nodded before taking his hand and running off the floor.
There were seats all around the room but they were all taken. "My feet hurt already" I said as I wobbled slightly. Jake laughed and looked around for an empty chair but I shrugged at him and sat down on the floor. I crossed my legs and the massive dress came up around me. I laughed and tried to push it down as Jake sat beside me.
"You really arent like the other princesses are you?" He laughed. He breath caught in my throat and my smike faded.
"Is that what you want?" I whispered. I didn't know if I wanted him to hear it but he did.
He smiled and took my hand. "It's what I'm afraid of. I dont want to have a princess who's just a copy of everyone else"
My face brightened up and I smiled at him. "Good" I said. I shuffled closer to him and rested my head against his shoulder.
"Attention!" A voice called out and I sat up. "I welcome all of you here tonight to celebrate the- Hey!"
"Excuse me! We are here because my daughter has finally returned! Willow where are you!" Hook called out. I giggled and Jake pushed me up. I turned and helped him to his feet before rushing through the crowds to the front of the ballroom where there was a stage.
Miss Darling stood beside the microphone with a fake smike plastered on but she kept sending glares my fathers way. I scowled at her before I pulled my dress up and got onto the stage. My father reached down and helped pull me up.
"Now I want everyone to be dancing and celebrating tonight! And that music better start speeding up!" He laughed and I giggled as he spun me. "You look amazing love" he said to me as he placed a kiss on my forehead. "Now go dance and have fun!" Hook chuckled as he shooed me away.
I giggled and ran to the edge of the stage. Jake stood there and I smiled at him. "Catch me!" I shouted over the music that had picked up speed. He looked at me confused and I jumped. He rushed underneath me and caught me in a ball of red.
