I didn't have any dreams that night, but I woke up frequently, and I finally decided to get up and realized the door was open, when I looked back, the bed was uninhabited. "He was just there when he moved me in there."
I walked out into the hall, closing the door quietly behind me. I felt the wall beside me as I walked around the corner but walked slower as I heard conversation coming from Marks room.I
I slid my body against the wall as I looked through the slightly cracked door, making sure to keep my thoughts silent.
"She would recover if I took her with me." Jake was filled with angst.
"Absolutely not Jake, don't take this offensively, it's just not safe for her." Mark wiped his face, he looked exhausted.
"Mark listen to me. She loved the pack. They loved her, she's their Luna, and I'm checking in tomorrow. She will come with me."
"Jake I forbid it, you will go but she stays and that's final! You've been making poor choices around here, when I said stay away you took it upon yourself not even her second day before breakfast, now you want to take her miles away from here? No." Mark slammed his hand on the desk and Jake stormed out, slamming the door behind him making me jump, I kept absolutely still.
He stood a few feet from the door, his shoulders were puffed out and I could feel the anger and frustration flowing out of him.
I slowly reached up and laid my hand on his back, he froze immediately and calmed his breathing down, turning to face me. His eyes were soft, more so than a moments ago I assumed.
"Will you go somewhere with me?", He smiled softly down at me.
I thought for a moment and watched everything from a few minutes ago play back and I nodded back at him.
"I won't let anything like that happen to you again." He was stern and he traced his fingers against my slightly bruised forearm, and if it weren't there, I wouldn't have even thought it was broken.
He rubbed his eyes, and I wrapped my arms around his arm, "Can we go back?", He nodded and led us back to the room, and I fell asleep almost as soon as my head hit the pillow
I woke up early that morning, the sun barely shining through the curtains, birds chirping happily. The morning breeze flowed through the room softly.
I looked over and Jake was sound asleep.
I sat up and outstretched my arms before standing up and tip-toeing over to the door.
"Hey", He groggily managed to speak. I smiled softly over at him watching him roll on his side, his shoulder heaving up and back down.
"Hey you,"I closed the door and walked back over to the bed,"I have to go change."
He pulled me back into bed and held me close to his chest, "Stay. We don't have to leave here for another-", he looked over at the end table where a clock had been sitting, "thirty-eight minutes."
I sat on the edge of the bed and rested my hand on his chest,"We should go early so we can both sneak out before Mark even wakes up. He's still sleeping." I was almost shocked at how casual it came out, and that I knew he was still sleeping by the way his heart beat steadily 2 floors below us.
He groaned and sat up as well, cradling his face in his hands before standing up and walking over to his dresser, fumbling around for some clothes.
He tossed one of his black hoodies at my head, and I frowned at him behind the sleeve that hung over my face and I slowly pulled it over my head.
I slipped on my boots, humming quietly as we walked, locking the door behind us.
We have to be quiet, he doesn't look it, but he has a pair of ears on him too.
"I'll never get used to that." I whispered, mentally punching myself in the face for not just answering back in the mind link. He led the way, walking to the very back and unlocking the door with his key card.
We both practically skipped the steps and jogged past trees and bushes, like deer running from predators, we jumped over broken trees and rocks that scattered across the forest floor until we reached a small field and took a break.
"It'll be a bit before we reach where we need to be," I walked around for a moment, the area seemed vaguely familiar.
He led me down a dirt path, I looked down at the different colored wildflowers that were scattered beside the pathway. It didn't take as long as I thought it would as soon as I started hearing people talk and Jake looks over at me, "Are you ready?", I looked up and I froze, falling to my knees.
Home.
