I picked up a sword and removed it from it's sheath. I turned it slightly and saw my reflection clear as day staring back at me.
I grinned and took my fighting stance. We stared at each other for a while testing each other, waiting to see who was brave enough to charge first.
And in one swift movement he jumped through the air at me and I quickly clashed swords with him, holding my ground. And in that one moment I knew every secret to his fighting combat. He feels dominant and he feels he needs to clash first, always underestimating his opponent.
He also used all of his stamina and force on the first few blows, again, underestimating his opponent. I clash his sword back, making him stagger backwards a little, losing his balance. In this small moment of opportunity, I made my move.
I cut through the air several times and then stand still. He looks back at me confused and then pieces of clothing fall to the ground.
He chuckles softly "There's the Kai I know", I take a breathe and put the sword back in the sheath. I put the sword back on the rack and pull my strands of hair out of my face.
He does the same with his sword and he leads me back to my room. "You start training tomorrow", He leans against the door frame and looks into my eyes "And. . . You will meet them."
And he left on that note, leaving me feeling exhausted. I walk over to the dresser and as I was pulling clean clothes out of the drawers, I looked up to see picture frame with me and the same people on my team.
I study their faces closely and I feel connected to them. I may not know them, But I feel the need to. . . Protect them. I put on an oversize t-shirt over some shorts and climb into bed and almost immediately fell asleep.
That night I had a terrifying dream. I was running through city streets, bullets were firing, bombs were blasting, and everything was in complete chaos. I look to my left and there were two on my left side running with me, and the same on my right side. The black haired one was holding my hand and just told me to keep running. I looked behind us for a split second and all I could see was darkness.
The next thing I knew was he got shot in the shoulder and another bullet grazed his neck, just missing his neck. He fell behind and I stopped running. The others did too once they saw I was not there. We all crowded around him trying to stop the bleeding as soldiers were trying to cover us. I held the boys hand, crying, as he blacked out.
I didn't realize that I had been screaming in my sleep until I was being shaken awake by the same man in my dream.
He had a worried look on his face and more tears kept spilling over my cheeks. "Kai. . .", I don't know why but I just jumped into his arms. "Do you remember me?"His voice sound pained and escaped his lips fast as if he didn't mean to say it aloud. Tears trickled down my cheeks and I didn't even understand why I was crying.
