37. Scarlett

I've never been a fan of hospitals. Maybe it's because I always had to tell lies at them before. Maybe it's because people are in and out of your room all day and night. I open my eyes to Luke sleeping on a chair next to me. His head is on my bed and I wish he could just climb up here and hold me.
"Morning sweetie." Georgia says.
"Good morning." I say with a hoarse voice. I need water. She reads my mind and holds my cup and straw up so I can take a sip. "Thank you."
"You're welcome. How are you feeling?"
"Sore." I say and try and sit up a little. Pain sears through me. "Really sore." I sigh.
"Want me to wake boy wonder to draw you?"
"No we can let him sleep." I smile at Lucas.
Georgia draws my blood and tells me she will be back later.
Stephanie, I think her name is, comes in and asks how I feel.
"Like I've been hit by a truckload of logs." I smile.
"At least you still have a sense of humor." She smiles back.
She gives me some more pain meds and just as I'm dozing off, panic courses through me, but it's too late and I succumb to the darkness.

The light is bright, too bright. I hear voices chatting in hushed tones, but I don't open my eyes. It's too bright.
"Can someone turn the sun down?" I say.
"Well hey sleepy head." Karianne says as the room darkens a little. I open my eyes and see Brett, Karianne, Luke, Paisley, and my new day shift nurse.
"Hey." I say and try and sit up.
"Hi Scarlett. I'm Trina. I'm your nurse today."
"Hi." I say and she comes to help me sit up a little. Luke also comes to my bed. "Hi beautiful. How are you feeling?"
"Horrible." I pout.
"Well you will probably feel like that for a little bit. You have a torn muscles in your leg. Multiple broken bones in your left arm. You had a punctured lung and internal bleeding."
"How's my face?" I ask.
"You have stitches in your head and on your chin. Luckily no broken bones."
I nod.
"I'll leave you all to talk. Scarlett I'm going to see if I can get you some non drowsy pain meds." Trina says as she disappears.
"I'm glad you're okay." Brett says. "I can't thank you enough for saving Hope. I don't know what I would have done-"
"I know. I love that little girl." I smile.
"She made you this." Kare brings me a picture of two stick people. "It's you two." She smiles.
"I love it. I can't believe yesterday was that crazy."
"Today is actually Wednesday." Luke says.
"I slept that long?" I ask.
"Those meds are strong and you needed to heal." Luke says kissing my forehead.
"I'm sorry about your blood draw." Paisley says.
"What do you mean?" I ask.
"I had to call Georgia when you came in. I couldn't draw you." She pouts out her bottom lip.
"It's okay. I appreciate you calling in Georgia instead of freezing up."
She nods. "I'm glad you are okay."
"Thanks, Pais." She hugs me quickly before letting Karianne come closer and switching on the TV.
"Well you must be starving! You look like you've lost twenty pounds easy!" Karianne says. "What sounds good?" She asks but Paisley catches my attention.
"Holy shit, Scar! You're famous." She laughs.
I look up at the TV to see a video someone took. I'm jumping through the air just in time to block the logs from smashing little Hope.
"This is CNN! That's crazy."
"What'd you just say?" My heart sinks.
"CNN? Ya know, the news channel."
I take some deep breaths as I feel my chest tighten.
"Scarlett Shay? I thought your last name was Smith?"
"Oh fuck. Fuck fuck fuck." I say and try to move to the end of the bed. "Where's my phone!" I yell though tears.
"It's okay. We will protect you." Luke says as he grabs my hand.
"I have to go. I have to leave here."
"You can't move. It's okay." Karianne says bringing me my phone. It's still in my purse from the race.
"Shit!" I cry when I look at it. Multiple texts and calls from Cam and Angie.

Angie-baby girl, we didn't know. Cam is working double time. I hope you're okay.

Cam- gorgeous, I'm doing my best but he has people now.

Angie- he knows.

Angie- we haven't found any records of him flying but he talked to the press.
