Chapter 43

Another 5 years

The night of the engagement, I was down in LA for an article, Jimmy was off the following week and was going to fly out for a little vacation that Sunday night. The Friday night, a few days from his arrival, Jimmy surprised me at Disneyland. Clare and I decided to have a little Friday night out and escape work for a few hours. She was acting weird, which should've thrown me off that something was up.

Once we walked through Sleeping Beauty's castle, someone had grabbed me and walked me out to the stone bridge. Jimmy was standing inches from me, he dropped down to one knee and asked. I grabbed that man of mine real quick and sobbed on his shoulder while his tears ran down my shirt. I stood back and said yes, us crybabies cried even more.

To say we were emotional wreck was an understatement that night. Screamed our way down splash mountain and almost threw up on the teacups. We held onto each other under the fireworks. Once we left the park we were headed to Laguna Beach for a little, well big, rental home for the week coming. It was so hot that week that Jimmy was forced to walk around shirtless everywhere he went in the daylight, and I didn't complain one bit and maybe hid his shirts a few nights.

These days the apartments much louder.. Three kids under the age of 6, an aging Gary with her grey muzzle, once Lainey was born, Rory got out at the house and got in a cat fight. Caught some bug and ended up being put down. But our girl lived a happy healthy life leading up do that day. Either we could keep her until the illness broke her down, or put her out of her misery. Jimmy and I cried the entire way home, sat in the driveway and bawled for an hour. We couldn't let our girl suffer. Her ashes sit on our dresser with her collar around the urn. I added three little ladybugs to my tattoo, symbolizing the kids, a little fish skeleton in one of the branches, a dog bone, and of course a four leaf clover for my honey.

A few months after our honeymoon, I had texted Jimmy and told him to go get a pregnancy test. We were at work and he flew down the street, I saw him running from my office window and then back to 30 Rock with a brown paper bag in hand. It came back positive a minute later and we cried, again, in his office. Finley was planned but not the time frame she was born in. We wanted to wait a year before we started a family, but little Finn insisted on popping up a few months after we tied the long awaited knot. Our little Lainey surprised us almost a year later on a trip we took to England. Finn stayed with mom and dad or her sister wouldn't have been so close to her. And little Link surprised us all. With each pregnancy, daddy talked to each bump every morning, told them his strange dreams, lunch breaks he would give them a rundown of the day, by dinner or after taping, he'd complain that his days are getting shorter and the tapings are getting longer. And of course, how he was looking forward to meeting them. Their names aren't names we've would've picked for them, Jimmy heard Finley in an airport when I was pregnant with her and thought it was cute, Lainey for me, and Link.. Well, we decided to let our geeky side out and since we both love Zelda, Link was a winner, but he's a Lincoln, we aren't that strange at the name game. We planned for one and somehow we got two more within our fives years of marriage.

The first three years of our marriage was baby crazy! Gloria had twins the same month we found out about Finley. The next year, little Lainey joined us and Collin and Sam had a little boy a few months earlier. They ended up with another boy by our fourth year and Link is still the baby of them all.

It's so crazy to see them running around and shouting and playing. These little babes are ours an only ours. I didn't think our parents were expecting grandchildren from either of us by the time of the wedding. Because when we told them, mom and dad didn't believe us, and Jim and Gloria, they told us to stop playing around. Marry late in life and your parents think you're kidding when you come with news they wanted to hear for a long time.
