Swallowing the lump in my throat proved to be harder then I liked it to be. Some things started to piece together in my head. Sophia showing up the same day Isabella comes to Australia with John and Luke.
"You followed her down here?" I asked already knowing the answer.
"Yes, I wanted to make sure she was okay and not running. My partner is in New York watching over Joe." Sophia said not hiding anything from me.
"So then what do you want me to do? You're here for something else?" I asked.
"I know you're not really involved in the game anymore but if you have any information that could help keep your mom safe, now is the time to tell me." Sophia said.
My mind is reeling. She wants me to be a rat. I have a wife and a child to take care of now. I can't have any of this blowing back on me.
"I'm only asking because the guy we were working on flipping turned us down. I'm running out of options here Scar. I'm trying to do everything in my power to keep her safe, you know I am, but I can't without any information." Sophia pleaded with me.
"You know how bad this could turn out for me if it gets out that I'm helping you?" I said.
"I know but you know how discreet I am about everything. I would never put you in a situation that risks you not seeing that adorable baby girl again." Sophia said.
The pressure of the moment is starting to build more now. Quickly I got up off the couch and walked around the living room.
"When do you go back to New York?" I asked.
"When Isabella does. I'm here to tail her remember?" Sophia said.
"I need time to think can you please go? I'll call you in a few days." I said
"Okay just please call sooner than later Scar. Time is key with this." Sophia said before walking out the front door.
The pressure in my stomach and throat built until I couldn't stand it anymore. I ran over to the bathroom and threw up everything I had for breakfast. When my stomach started to settle I sat back against the wall of the bathroom. Cassie came strolling in a few seconds later and put her head down on my lap.
"Veronica? I'm home, where are you?" My wife called out.
"Bathroom" I said quietly, my voice still scratchy from throwing up.
Amanda and Amelia found me sitting on the floor a few seconds later. She flushed the toilet and sat on it in front of me.
"Are you okay?" Amanda asked and felt my forehead.
"I think I might have had some bad eggs for breakfast this morning or something." I lied.
"Let's get you to bed honey, come on." Amanda said and helped me up off the bathroom floor. After brushing my teeth I let Amanda walk me to bed. Once I was settled she kissed my forehead.
"Amelia and I are going to take Alicia to her doctor's appointment, you get some rest." Amanda said.
I just nodded and tried to keep my head from spinning. I felt the bed dip a little bit and felt Cassie's furry head on my chest. I barely had any time to pet her when I ended up falling asleep with a lot on my mind.
When I woke up a few hours later I found John sitting in a chair by the bedroom door. After he saw me sitting up he got off the chair and sat on the edge of the bed.
"How are you feeling?" He asked and felt my forehead.
"Like I got hit in the face with a brick." I answered and pushed his hand away.
