Santana barely said 10 words to me during the rest of the day. Spencer was in and out of it but really started coming around towards dinnertime. Amanda ended up coming down to the hospital and brought us all dinner. For now I told Amanda that Spencer fainted because she was dehydrated from being outside for most of the day without drinking water. She believed it but I could tell she has doubts about the story.
After we all ate dinner Amanda went back to the restaurant to finish up the close while I sat back watching the girls. Santana was laying down with her sister while I had a hard time keeping my questions to myself. This is not the place to start questioning these two girls who have been through a lot that I still don't know about.
The doctor came back in to see how Spencer was feeling and he could tell that she was doing much better then when she came in. Unfortunately he still wants to give her more medication to really flush her system and she is going to be staying the night. When he left the room I followed him out and asked if we could stay with her considering the circumstances and he agreed. After thanking him I went back to the girls.
When I got there Santana took her place next to Spencer again. She is curled into her side and I really had to fight the urge to smile at how close they are. I did take a quick picture of the two of them before settling down in my seat.
"The doctor said we can stay with you tonight, he'll release you tomorrow morning once he takes some blood." I said and propped my feet up on her bed. Santana was already asleep but I knew that Spencer was awake.
"Okay" was the only answer I got before she followed her sister.
Unlike the girls I was awake for most of the night. Flashbacks of Amanda getting stabbed kept coming back for some reason and I couldn't shake them no matter what I tried. The only way to stop them from happening was to stay awake. After a while of sitting in the chair I got up and took a walk to the cafeteria to get some coffee and a bite to eat. When I returned to the room the sun was starting to come up and the girls were both asleep.
I settled into my chair again and watched the girls sleep for a while. The doctor came into the room around 9am to check in on Spencer so I had to awake her up. Santana on the other hand was still very much asleep as I took her away from Spencer so the doctor could do his work. The doctor was quick and quiet in getting what he needed from Spencer to not wake up Santana.
A little while later the doctor came back in to officially discharge Spencer. I filled out all of the paper work while a nurse came in to help Spencer get ready to go. When she was ready I woke up Santana and we all left the hospital. The ride home was quiet, on the way back to the farm we stopped by the drug store to fill the prescription the doctor gave us before we left the hospital. Spencer needed some more antibiotics to make sure the infection is out of her system. When we got back to the farm Spencer looked at me confused.
"I'm not letting you guys go back to the apartment right now. I want to keep my eyes on you. We also need to have a talk about this. I don't like the lying and hiding things so for now you are going to be staying in our guest room." I said and opened my door.
Spencer followed my action and got out of the truck with Santana following right behind her. It took Spencer a minute to get up the stairs of the front porch. All I want to do right now is run inside and see my baby girl because I can hear her crying from outside but I need to wait for the girls. When they got up the stairs I pushed open the door and let them walk inside first.
Amanda was struggling with Alicia and when she saw me I walked right over to her to take Alicia. Once she was in my arms Alicia stopped crying.
"I need to go to work, are you okay with watching Alicia all day?" Amanda asked.
"Yea it's fine, go." I said and gave Amanda and kiss on the cheek. Amanda gave me a kiss on the lips back and pushed some of my hair behind my ear before leaving me with the girls.
Once Alicia was calm I put her into her crib before making the girls sit down on the couch. I took a seat in front of them on the coffee table and looked back and forth between them.
"So, does someone want to tell me what is going on?" I asked. Nothing.
"I'm not going to play this game guys. I have friends in high places, don't make me call them to really find out what's going on." I said.
Spencer sighed and ran a hand through her hair and looked at her sister. Santana I don't think knows too much about what is going on and I don't really want Spencer to shatter this illusion she made for Santana. I sighed and stood up.
"Santana come with me for a minute." I said and walked toward the front door. On time like always Amelia was waiting right outside.
"Amelia come with us." I said and closed the door behind Santana. She followed behind me as I walked us to the barn.
"Santana this is Amelia, my wife's younger sister. You are going to hang out with her for a while while your sister and I talk." I said and nodded towards the barn door. Amelia got the hint and opened the door for me. When Santana saw the puppies her mouth dropped open.
"I'll send you a text when you can come back to the house okay." I said in Amelia's ear.
"Okay but you have a lot of explaining to you when you're done." Amelia answered.
I just left it at that then returned to the house. Spencer was still sitting in the same place I left her when I got back. I took the same place in front of her on the coffee table.
"I know a stab wound when I see one. I'm also going to guess and say you didn't see a doctor to stitch you up." I started.
"No, a friend did." Spencer said.
"Okay, one answer down. Next question, how do you know Joe?" I said and watched Spencer face closely. Hurt, anger, and fear spread across her face, I know I hit a nerve.
"I don't know who that is." Spencer said.
"Don't start with me Spencer, there are pictures of you guys together and in them you don't look happy." I said.
"I wanted out, the last time I saw Joe I told him I was done dealing. He obviously didn't like that because one of his guys came after me with a knife and did a nice job. I got away, barely, and was able to get back to NYU were I had a friend stitch me up." Spencer said opening up.
"How did you get involved dealing with Joe?" I asked.
"I needed the money and I asked a friend where he was making a lot, he introduced me to Joe and from there I had enough money to keep that shitty apartment and food on the table for Santana and I." Spencer answered.
I leaned back on the coffee table and looked at her. This girl was in way over her head. She willingly got in with Joe because she needed the money.
"I made Joe a deal. I would deal for him for a certain amount of time and he would give me an answer to the question I came to New York with." Spencer said.
"And what is the question?" I asked my heart felt like it was going to jump out of my chest.
"Are you my sister?" Spencer said.
