I don't know how long I was asleep for. When I woke up Spencer was in the room sound asleep and the sun was up. The black book is still tucked tightly to my chest and I slowly released my hold on it to put it behind me in the chair as I stood up.
My whole body felt stiff as I started to stretch out my aching muscles. Sleeping in these hospital chairs are the worst and my back is definitely going to let me know it for the next couple of days. I stretched for a few more minutes and carefully sat on the edge of Spencer's bed and sighed.
I didn't get to think for long because the door was pushed open and another bed was wheeled into the room. I caught a glimpse of blonde hair sitting up in bed. A smirk graced my face as the nurses left Sophia with me.
"How much did you have to bribe the nurses and your doctors to be in here with Spencer?" I asked and walked over to her bed.
"You don't want to know. How's the kid doing?" Sophia asked and grimaced as she tried to sit up.
"Don't start moving around Sophia please, I don't need a heart attack on top of all of this and I don't even know. I was sleeping when they brought her in and the doctor hasn't come around yet." I said and pressed my hand into her shoulder to try and keep Sophia in place.
"You still have the book right?" Sophia asked as she returned her eyes to me.
"About the book, it kind of got damaged." I said and stood up to get the book I left on the chair. When I returned to the wounded FBI agent and showed her Sophia chuckled.
"Wow alright, my boss is going to love this. He should be coming around soon and you can hand it over to him." Sophia said and handed the book back to me.
"How are you feeling?" I asked.
"I'll be fine in a few months, the vest saved my life, I'm going to have a few welts from the bullets that hit it but I'm thankful I wore it. The one bullet that missed the vest didn't hit anything important and they were able to remove it without any complications." Sophia said and I was relieved.
Before she could say anything the door to the room opened again and I held tightly onto the black book. A woman in a lab coat walked in with two large men behind her both wearing FBI windbreakers. The doctor I found out to be Spencer's and she went over everything that happened in the surgery and that Spencer will be fine. The bullet hit her spleen and they had to remove it but it's an organ Spencer can live without.
The doctor said that they gave her a heavy cocktail of medications for the pain and antibiotics to prevent infections so she will be in and out all day. Tomorrow she should be more awake and then we can start talking about getting her into psychical therapy and possibly some counseling. After the events of the last couple of weeks I thought it might be a good idea for Spencer to see someone. The doctor left us afterwards and told me to call a nurse if Spencer needs anything.
Once the doctor left Sophia introduced me to her bosses. Special Agent Robert Jet who is in charge of the New York office Sophia works out of and Assistant Director of the FBI Derek Franklin. Both of the men spoke about how dedicated Sophia has been to this case and how she did everything in her power to help me. When I handed over the book to them Assistant Director Franklin was shocked to see the bullet is still lodged in the black book.
He made a few phone calls and a few minutes later a team came into the hospital room to take the book and bullet into evidence. After the team took the bullet from the book and placed them into evidence bags I pulled my cellphone out of my pocket to show them.
